Well- this year was tough, as I went hunting knowing Dad wouldnt be there to call and share the story with. But as these things are meant to be, time out was theraputic. For an old "flatlander" like me a 25 mile an hour breeze always does a good job of cleansing the soul. Health issues meant that I had to hunt from the car this year, but even that wasnt all bad. Lets face it, my "deer stand" had reclining leather seats. :)

Not alll bad....but it does mean that your field of fire is kinda small, but the view is still OK. Sun up, and the right edge of my field of fire. No shots here, looking right down the road. However the other side of the road is a short run (as the deer goes) to a county park and safety if you are a deer.

To my left is the end of an old road bed that goes down from the level of the field significantly. That old road bed runs down to a creek that flows into the Minnesota river just a mile or so away.

That river valley looks like this in places

What was behind me was trees and brush- thicker than a dog...so when this little guy tried to sneak out of that road bed and into the park he was about 50 yards away and broadside.

The Federal Trophy tipped copper slug was right on the money, but DESTROYED both shoulders :x The little guy proceeded to run back around the trees in the pic for about 30yards before pilling up. :? Definite ground shrinkage here :(  but he will be good eatin' !

As long as I was that far west I headed back to SD for a day to see my little sis. Had to stop and take a couple more pics. Its maybe not the "wild places" some of you hunt , but the plains are where my recharge comes from. Hope you enjoy ...sorry for the long post. CL

Congrats on your deer hunt, that young guy will taste great for sure. Glad you could make it out this year :)

I'm so glad you were able to make it out this year, Troy. That little fellow will definitely provide some fine victuals. Congratulations.

Beautiful country and great pics. That will be some good eating. Glad you got out to refresh your soul.

I really like your mobile stand. Beats one without a heater. Great pictures and story.

No apology for your "long" post needed. Thoroughly enjoyed reading it and seeing the photos.

Love the mobile ground blind... Did you say leather seats? Cool... Why haven't "my" Crown Vicky patrol cars had leather? Dang, I've been missing out for all these years.

Yeah, I understand about the deer looking smaller after it's on the ground... Been there. Still, they cook & eat just fine.

Congratulations!

Guy

We are products of our environments, CL, and I wholeheartedly concur with your statement.

Glad you were able to take time to savor this hunt and I'm sure the fact that you connected carries its own level of gratification. Also glad the Crown Vic was able to haul some freight on her maiden voyage! :)

Don't apologize for the pics, or the long post.
I enjoyed reading and seeing the whole kit and caboodle. :) Congrats on filling the freezer.

Way to go Troy! Glad you scored buddy! That deer should taste excellent! That little buck will probably still weigh more than our bigger bucks down here in VA!

Great shooting!

I enjoyed reading your story and the photos. Folks don't realize how robust whitetails can be.

If you want to post more pictures Troy I'm sure everyone would want to see them. I'm wondering how you got the deer into the car, did he ride in the trunk or did you strap him into the front seat   BTW I once got a moose home in a Chevy S10 Blazer, lots of fun getting him in there :)

FIL and friends threw him in the trailer behind the Avalanche for me. I headed further west. Deer have come home in my trunk before. :) CL
