Starting new so I just kind of went by what the guy selling ne said would work. He sold me winchester 231 powder. I have a feeling there's much better choices out there. I mean I just can't seem to find a happy load for my gun, and there's really not much info out there that even includes 231 in it's info, I've been playing with it and thought I finally found a good spot but towards the end of my range time I started having some discharge problems. Is this just me or does someone have a better suggestion out there for 9mm luger powder? I also noticed that this powder is extremely dirty.

Some of the fellows that load for the 9mm will be along shortly. It is usually best to look in a reliable loading manual to find what they recommend. The Nosler Reloading Guide is especially helpful as it gives the most accurate powder in their tests; these are usually very close to what will work in all guns. For the 9mm Luger with 115 grain Jacket Hollow Point, they found SR4756 to be the most accurate powder. Which bullet are you shooting in your 9 mm?

I use IMR-700X in mine, only because I have a huge keg of it that needs used up. With 115gr XTP's it shoots pretty good. I also use this powder in 45acp, 38 spl, and 357mag.

231 might not be optimum but it is no slouch either. Very clean burning powder!

Yeah I'm using a 115 grain fmj. I know about the books out there but I was absolutely stunned how many different ranges you get from 1 manufacturer to another. I did pick up one of those complete manuals for 9mm lugers. Just for example, Hornady says 4.1-4.7 max. Nosler doesn't even mention 231. Sierra is 3.8 to 5.3 max. Speer 4.4 to 4.9max. Then they go to powders themselves and winchester themselves say 4.3 to 4.8 max. My last time out I took two different charged batches of cartridges one about 3.6 and one about 4.4. I think the 3.6 was giving me ejection problems, and the 4.4 was to much on accasion sparks would come out of the gas relief. So I'm gonna go with 4.0.
