Will be reloading 270 Win with h4831 for a buddy. I have everything I need in components except I have a 1/3 pound powder left from previous loads. how do I go about switching to a different lot after all my current stock is used up mid batch as the new powder as the powder is 2 weeks away?

Drop a couple of grains and work up. There should not be that much of a difference.

I've actually never adjusted a load for different lots of powder. I've never noticed a difference in typical hunting range type accuracy. But I typically use book max, which tends to be conservative. If I was pushing pressure signs, then I would for sure check loads for different lots of powder.

Nor have I, it does't make sense. The powder companies provide us with loading data for a particular powder, not a particular "lot". There is plenty of room built into their loading data for variation. Stay under book max and all "should" be well.

You do need to be careful in switching lots of powders one of the reasons I mostly gave up on Alliant powders was there were some really big differences in different lots enough that you could get into some serious trouble if you worked up with a slow lot and then got a can of the hot stuff. RL 15 in the 35 Whelen was the culprit in my case. Hodgdon and IMR powders have been more consistent but dropping a couple of grains of powder and going up is a good idea.
