For the past 3 yrs in shooting the 204 ruger, I have shot many prairie dogs with the 32 v-max bullet and the results have been very EXPLOSIVE! Over the past year, I worked up a very accurate load using the newer 40 grain ballistic tips with coyotes in mind. On Friday, my gun (CZ527Varmint) was sighted for the ballistic tip when I took my dad prairie dog shooting for the first time. This was also my first time shooting the ballistic tips at prairie dogs. I maybe a half a dozen rats some from 100-300 yards. Although they died instantly or tail twitched a bit on their backs, none of them gave me the red mist, or loud "whop" report upon being hit that I nearly always get with the lighter v-max bullets. I was honestly dissapointed with the lack of splat factor and quickly sighted back in for the v-max and then commensed to launching, gutting, and decapitating games I was use to the rest of the afternoon.

In summary, I believe the 40 ballistic tip is better suited for coyote sized critters with pelt damage control in mind and the 32 v-max is better suited for blowing up prairie dogs.

Do any of you have experience to share with shooting these bullets?

vmax's are generally more explosive then nbt's. I think they use a thinner jacket.

ballistic tips also have the solid base design where as the vmax's do not.

your also using a heavier bullet which slows down the expansion.

Yote,

I have found the same thing out of my 22-250. I get excellent accuracy with the b-tips and very little pelt damage when shooting yotes.
I switched and went to the " green tipped " bullets that I've found to be much more dramatic...
Best part is, the B-tips and B-kings shoot in the exact same place for me so I can switch back and forth...

I can't remember any squirrels getting airborn but the 40 gr bt is super accurate and in my encore and they have a nasty habit of ripping them apart, sometimes they just stop moving where they are.
