Pre-64 Model 70 FS

It is with heavy heart I post this listing. Our family has had more than its share of financial surprises lately. So several of my guns are going to have to go.

Up for sale is this Winchester Model 70 pre-64 in .30-06 Springfield. I have only had it since April of this year. I got it from the son of the original owner who sold it because he thought it kicked too much.

The stock is original but the barrel is not. It is a Douglas barrel cut to 23.5” and has been recently recrowned. I believe it is a #3 contour. Before I owned it the checkering was nicely recut, and the stock had been glassbedded both in the barrel boss area and the action.

It has signs of use but is in great condition.

The Burris FFII 3-9 scope is in Kesselring aluminum mounts and rings, and is the standard duplex reticle, NOT the ballistic plex. I did not shoot it with this scope mounted so it will need to have the reticle leveled and sighted in. The factory trigger has been worked and breaks on an average of 2# 1oz according to my gauge.

No barrel screw and sling swivels are not original either. Good honest working rifle. Due to not having it very long I never got to work up a load for it, but it shot the Hornady American Whitetail 150 grain factory stuff at around 1” at 100 yards. More pics available for serious inquiries.

I need money, so am not interested in trades at all right now.

$980 OBRO shipped to your FFL. Paypal f/f or personal check preferred. Rifle won’t ship until money clears. Cross posted on the fire.

I have a very similar pre 64 in .30-06-these are very good rifles, built to hand down to the next generation again and again. The flat metal butt plate is a kicker, but I’ve never bothered to replace mine. I did refinish the stock on mine. They are great pieces of Americana, I hope someone picks yours up and puts it to good useIMG_2715.jpeg

Update:

While I need to sell this gun for the extra cash, a partial trade idea will be considered:

I need another High Standard Sport King (push button takedown, not lever) as mine is in the shop. Would prefer something ‘55-‘56 vintage with a slide stop, longer 6.75” barrel and a leather holster. If someone has a Sport King SK-100 with push button/slide off barrel in good shape (i.e. no cracked frame etc.) I would accept that in partial trade plus the balance in cash.

Thanks.
