I just picked up a premier heritage 5-25x56 tactical off of snipershide, i will put it up against my schmidts and do a little write up on it when it gets here.

Jeff,

I am looking forward to your write up.

This should be most interesting. I will appreciate your assessment, Jeff.

This is what I love about this forum :) we have so many people here that are just willing to help in all things.
Jeff I am looking forward to your report. I have never heard of this particular scope but know if you think it is worth testing it must be all right!

Blessings,
Dan

I had a premier 3-15X50 that I sold this fall that had the best glass (I have looked through or shot all of the best) of any scope I have ever used. S&B and Premier are the two best scopes to my eyes in a FFP scope. The 5-25 Premier is a $3500 scope, so it better be good.

Yes, at that price they should be top shelf that is for sure. Who makes the glass for them & who does the assembling?

Blessings,
Dan

Scope shipped today. Who makes them? A group from schmidt and bender that designed the pmII quit and started premier optics.

I will vouch for that 3x15 Joel had. It was AWESOME! I know it didn't have a couple things Joel wanted in the scope, but oh man, the glass was out of this world good. Really sturdy piece of glass as well.

Looking forward to what Jeff comes up with. I can't imagine it would be bad though.

Jeff, what are you going to put it on?

The scope showed up yesterday, I should have some time this weekend to play with it.

Jeff enjoy the weekend getting to know that new scope. I am looking forward to reading your review with Photos I hope .

I had a chance to get the premier out today " it has been windy and i have had pnuemonia for the past week". The schmidt and premier are both similar in weight and length. That being said I will get more to what i like and dislike about both of them.
Clarity, both have top notch clarity, i honestly cant say which looks better when looking through them. Both are crisp and bright.
Controls, the schmidts that i have are older models and have been used alot, this makes my opinion of the fluidity of the power ring, parralex adjustment a bit smoother on the schmidts. The premier is like new and the controls are a bit stiff.
Reticles, i do like the gen 2 xr reticle better the the P4f, the gen 2 xr has 1/2 mil increments for both elevation and windage, the schmidts P4f subtends out to .8 mils and then goes full mil, to half mil and so on in both windage and elevation. The .8 mil is a pain because your measuring from dead center to full mil to get your half mil " which half mil is used a pile more the .8 mils. S&B has better reticles like the h2cmr and MSR to choose from on the newer scopes, either would be a better option in my opinion for shooting steel in a match and milling environment.
Windage and elevation turrets, this again goes to premier. The premier has a little bit bigger gap between clicks over the schmidt, the premier also has a detent at each full mil letting you know you have hit a full mil value, this is handy but also makes you skip to .2 mil when coming out of it.
My schmidts dont have thia feature but the new ones do.
The premier has 30 mils of elevation 15 miks per turn on a double turn turret, this will allow a .308 win to get to 1000 yards on a single turn. The schmidt has 28 mils of elevation.
The premier has a pin that pops out on the tirret letting you know when your on the second rotation whereas the schmidt has a yellow band that appears on top of the turret, I like the schmidt better in that regard.
Bith are 34mm with 56 mm objectives. Both have side focus but the premier has no indication on the know to suggest where you are in the focus to yardage theater, the schmidt has ranges on it telling you how far the yardage is when focused, this doesnt really matter becauae you focus until the image is clear anyway. The schmidt may be a tad faster when focusing at closer ranges.
All in all am happy with both the schmidts and the premier scopes, you can pick up a used premier for about 400 dollars cheaper than a schmidt and you will still have the same level scope, top tier.
One thing i have learned with playing with these high end scopes is suddenly after employing one your not as content as you were with the scope you have sitting on your rifle.
Are these good hunting scopes? I would say with the sheer size and weight, probably not the best for that application, are these awesome, clear, durable, repeatable target and tactical scopes sitting on comparable tactical or target rifles absolutely.

Heck of a job Jeff, someone should be able to decide what application they are going to use their rifle for and then make a informed decision on what they are going to put on top of it :)

Blessings,
Dan
