Primer change?

Primers can make a difference on POI, velocity, accuracy and most importantly pressure. Usually it won't be as pronounced as changing brass, but it will effect your results. Whenever you change a component in a load, it effects the results...some good, some bad.

Yes!!! absolutely!!! Not only does effect 100yds accuracy but also makes a difference in extreme spread and deviation. I finally closed my group with the 225gr AccuBond and the last thing I did after powder, OAL, adjustments was change to 9 1/2M primers and it all came together.

I read an article in Handloader magazine a few years ago where they tested different primers with the same test barrel, pressure transducer, brass and loads. The change of primers from one maker to another and from standard to magnum large rifle primers varied pressure as much as 6,000 PSI, depending on maker and type. It surprised me that it was that much variation.

Changing primers can and sometimes does affect accuracy.
Remember to drop your charge weight and work up when chaanging any components.

In my .270 win, if I switch between CCI 200, to the WMRP, the WMRP's will print 12" higher.
So yes, they make a difference.

BeeTee posted a handy little comparison chart on this reloading site showing some of the differences a primer change may make. Take a look at the comparison chart, it's interesting reading. Cheers, G
