Has anyone had shallow primer pocket cause a dent in the primer when seating primers on a press?

Can you post some pictures?

No. There's a discussion on TFL forum about primers being dented on a press. And i said about shallow primer pockets doing it. A moderator said he don't see how it would cause it.

Dirt from decapping a case on a progressive reloading press can leave a flake of carbon on top of the primer seating pin and will dent the primers when you seat a primer in the case.
I see it all the time when loading pistol ammo on my Dillon 450 progressive press.
I clean my press and the primer seating pocket when I see it happening with a brush. You would be surprised at how much burnt powder carbon builds up in the press from decapping primers.
I had to disassemble it the other day and clean it up because of the carbon.
