Primer question:

Use of magnum primers in traditionally non- magnum cartridges is sometimes the best load depending on the situation. You should start load development with a reduced load and work up, but there is no problem using the mag primers. In my T/C Encore (15" barrel) I use mag primers because they are a bit hotter, and my 308 barrel, with the best powder, needs the hotter primer. I have tried a load with 5 different primers (all other variables were identical), and the mag primers gave me the best SD's and accuracy. Be sure to reduce your load by 10-15% to start and work your way up.

Doesn't the same rule apply when using standard large rifle primers in a magnum cartridge? FOr differing reasons, yes, but the same rule applies. Right? Start low and work up?

I'm using large rifle match primers in 300 weatherby because they didn't have any large rifle mag primers.

I use Norma's reloading manual a lot (because I have a lot of Norma 204) and all they use (as far as I can tell) is WLRM. They work fine for me.

For instance: 30-06 Nosler 30180, Norma brass, 52 grains of 204 with WRLM primers gives around 2550 fps in my Sako.

BTW, I have found that Nosler 30-06 brass weighs about 25 gn more than Norma.
