Hello fellas,

I am new on the forum and would appreciate some help. You already helped me once with the 77 grain 220 swift loads that a friend asked for. Thanks! That is how I found out about this forum.

I cannot find any loads listed anywhere for reloader 26 in a 340 weatherby. I am shooting 300 grain bullets. Nosler custom competition to be exact. Could someone possibly run this through QL please? Until I decide to fork over the dough for QL myself, I am pretty high and dry on this one. :?

Ridgegoat90,

Welcome to the forum. The 300 gr bullets out of your 340 Wby will make for a potent long range round.
Don't overlook Retumbo and IMR7828SSC.
One of the fellas with QL will be along shortly.

Welcome to the forum, Ridgegoat90. The Nosler Custom Competition is not in the data base for QL at this time. This is a projection using the 300 grain AB, which may help.

I built this 340 with that in mind. I got great groups with 7828 ssc but the velocity was the slowest across all loadings. I want to do the 2000 yard match and with the velocity the 7828 is giving i will be going subsonic at 1700.

looks like about 17 FPS difference . here is a powder list from highest velocity to slowest .

Cartridge : .340 Weath. Mag.
Bullet : .338, 300, Nosler CC HPBT 53515
Useable Case Capaci: 80.472 grain H2O = 5.225 cm³
Cartridge O.A.L. L6: 3.675 inch = 93.35 mm
Barrel Length : 26.0 inch = 660.4 mm

Predicted Data for Indicated Charges of the Following Powders.
Matching Maximum Pressure: 63840 psi, or 440 MPa
or a maximum loading ratio or filling of 105 %
These calculations refer to your specified settings in QuickLOAD 'Cartridge Dimensions' window.
C A U T I O N : any load listed can result in a powder charge that falls below minimum suggested
loads or exceeds maximum suggested loads as presented in current handloading manuals. Understand
that all of the listed powders can be unsuitable for the given combination of cartridge, bullet
and gun. Actual load order can vary, depending upon lot-to-lot powder and component variations.

19 loads produced a Loading Ratio below user-defined minimum of 90%. These powders have been skipped.

Jim, how would Retumbo look if you set it for 3.7" COAL and 112% fill or maybe 115% just for grins?

he might be better off using something a little lighter , maybe a bullet in the 250 - 280 gr range

Maybe a 250 Scenar.... Those suckers seem to work really well for the Brits, Canadians and Aussies.

Was the gun built with any free bore? if it wasn't the quick load predictions are probably going to be pretty close..... if it's got free bore or the ability to hang bullets out you might be able to go considerably more than the prediction show.

I just checked my records cause I knew I had played with some 300 in my Mark V. They were Sierra match Kings.
My gun has the normal weatherby free bore but I was using Remington brass... 300 Weatherby necked up to 340 which reduces case capacity some.... still my results are quite a bit slower than the above predictions. Quickload and Weatherby Factory rifles don't match up very well. All of my loads shot like crap apparently the twist was not enough... here were results for what it's worth.
78 grains i7828 2620 fps
77.5 re22 2560
82.5 magpro 2620

If I reset the quick load parameters to what actually happened on the chronograph and do a step up chart it says I would hit 2700 FPS with the above powders but I'd be right at 65 k.
Fwiw... My gun seems to be a pretty normal Weatherby 340 it's favorite bullet as the 250 Partition and I can push it up to 2930 maybe 2950 and that's it.... pressure signs start popping up.

The problem with the 250s is that by the time you get out that far, the 300 is beating them.

And I did build it with a little bit of freebore, not nearly as much as the factory weatherby. Custom ordered a reamer from ptg. Still enough to shoot the factory weatherby stuff safely. But i can seat the bullets a helluva lot closer to the landa for accuracy.

There are a lot of crazy improved versions of the 338 Lapua out there. I'm not up to speed on what it would take to convert but "maybe" as simple as getting a chamber reamer job? (if the gun has been accurate) There's always a keyboard idiot like me telling people how they can spend their money....Lol.

If I was so inclined i think I would just convert it to a 338 allen. That is IF I had money falling out of my ears lol. I already have a lot of brass and whatnot for this rifle. I designed it to be my 800 yard elk gun... the 2000 yard match is just me pushing its limits and having fun with it.

A buddy of mine has one of his Wildcats based off the 338 Lapua. I think he's got a couple of different wild cats and I think my buddy got the milder version...... it's a tack driver. 340 wby brass is ez to sell.....lol!
