Anyone able to run quick load for 338 federal using 210 partitions and IMR 8208 powder.

Thanks to you both for the info. This is the last on my initial load development, but just couldn't find data on it. I'm only going to run speed tests to start. I see no sense anymore in wasting time & $$ on accuracy tests, only to find that it's a moped later. 8208 and RL-15 are on the 'have-on-hand list, if not up to snuff ...LVR next, at least for the 210 PT.

Please keep us up to date on how it works, I will as soon as I can.
 
What would be the best powder in the 338 federal and the 200gr Speer; my Ruger 77 Hawkeye doesn't shoot it and MR2000 very well. Any QL help out there? :)
 
Best? The 338 Federal doesn't appear to be particularly fussy. Any of a number of powders should give you good results. Some I would consider include TAC, RL15, IMR4198, BL(C)2 and A2230.
 
I'm using 8208,2230,LVL and TAC. IMR 8208 is my go to powder for 160-210 gr bullets, AA2230 gets better velocity in the 160-180 range and LVL is best velocity over 210gr. With the 210 Partition I can safely get 2575fps with 8208 and 2625fps with LVL and I don't think any animal is going to notice 75fps.

Shooting 8208 with the 180gn AB I'm getting just under 2800fps
Shooting AA2230 and 160gn TTSX I'm getting just over 3000fps

Now if I can just pick a bullet for whitetail I like them all.
 
I can tell you as fact, from personal experience, that a 200gr .338 @ 2550fps will spin a 7'3" black bear 270 degrees sideways, in mid air, at 30 yds.

I've got 210's loaded and boxed.....now can some help me find a range that's not 2hrs from the house ?

Could you run data on 338 federal with 200gr AB and 185gr ttsx, showing which powders are best to reach full potential? Thank you I have a Ruger m77 I have not shot or even mounted a scope on yet but want to begin working with it soon. Thanks.
 
I have untried data as yet, showing the following with the 220 gr Speer Hot Cor for my 338 Federal:
  • CFE223: 53.0 gr for approx. 2710 fps
  • Power Pro Varmint: 49.6 gr for approx. 2708 fps
  • XBR8208: 47.0 gr (sorry, no velocity projection)
I am not exactly sure what the difference is between the Hot Cor and the Uni-Cor that Speer made for Federal to load in their ammunition, but the 200 gr Uni-Cor ammo produces 2687 fps (spec's for 2700 fps) out of my 22" barreled bolt Action, resulting in 0.447" groups at 200 yards (as tested by my gunsmith when the put my rifle together). It retains 1931 fps and 1655 ft lbs of energy at 400 yards, dropping 25.3" from a 200 yard zero. That is still good enough for moose (and deer or bear). I wouldn't hesitate to use it on elk at 300 yards, where it retains 2107 fps and 1971 ft lbs of energy, and drops 8.7" from the 200 yard zero. To date I have taken a bull moose, a bull caribou, and a stones ram with this ammo, from 25 to 150 yards. All quick, clean one-shot kills, where no animal went more than 15 yards from point of taking the shot.

For the 200 gr AccuBond, I have the following max data from QL for my 22" barrel, to test (this is the bullet I hope to find a great load with for my bolt action):
  • BL-C2: 49.5 gr for approx. 2675 fps
  • CFE223: 51.7 gr for approx. 2675 fps
  • Win 748: 47.6 gr for approx. 2672 fps
  • Big Game: 50.6 gr for approx. 2667 fps
  • Re-15: 47.9 gr for approx. 2663 fps
  • Power Pro Varmint: 49.1 gr for approx. 2650 fps
  • XBR8208: 45.4 gr for approx. 2615 fps
The only load data I have seen anywhere, and recorded, for the 185 gr TTSX was:
  • A-2230: 49.0 gr for approx. 2798 fps

I should have also stated that the data was for 65K psi in pressure for my Sako Model 85.
If someone's rifle is an older military action, they may want to back off these max loads a bit for less pressure in a non-modern action.
With your rifle being a modern action, you should be fine, but as with any rifle, work up slowly to these max loads, watching for pressure signs.
