Look at the capacity rating between the two. They better go back to the drawing board. A .30-8mm is 2.85" and a .300wm is 2.62" on the same basic case.

A friend had a 26" Sendero .300wm and it would shoot 210 Matrix bullets at 2960fps. My 30-8mm shoots the same bullet 3100fps in a 27" barrel. My OAL is 3.79" though. Wyatt boxes are a plus for the long magnums.
 
Yah that don't look right actually.

How does the standard 300 have more case capacity and faster then the bigger 8 mag case?

I would think the 8 mag case would add at least 100fps. Basically like 300 wby and last I checked it wad bit faster then the 300 win mag.
 
I'd be happy pushing the 208 amaxs at 3000 very accurately anyway.

300 win with 28" bbl and slow powders looks like it can be done fairly easilu
