I have a box of older nosler partitions 120 gr 257

I wouldnt mind trying these in my wby but I dont want to waste my time if these will be or shoot different from what is currently produced.

what do you all think?

I'd try them. I can't imagine that production has changed sufficiently to alter the POI. Even if that were the case, it would be fun to work up a load.

If I remember my reading correctly you have to have a certain barrel twist for the 120 gr. It seems as though the older rifles wouldn't stablize the longer bullet. OT 3 or bullet or D mike will probably know. Other than that if it shoots them well, they will do what Partitions do!

Keep in mind that Nosler has refined some of the designs so the newer ones might shoot differently.

The good and the bad of this bullet for me. I did not have good results with the 120 grain .257 Partitions in my Winchester Model 70, .257 Roberts. They were not very accurate with the slow twist. The case is not large enough to push them fast enough to stabilize them in the 1 in 12 inch twist.

These 120 grain bPartitions do shoot great in a .25-06 or .257 Bee with a 1 in 10 inch twist. In my Model 70, .25-06, they shot tight, round groups of about MOA to 200 yards. I killed a few deer with them up to 300+ yards. This was back in the 1980's and 1990's. I do not know how old your bullets are but they should work great starting out at 2900 fps or more with a 1 in 10 twist barrel.

well I am hoping for 3300 plus

these are pretty old they are in a black and gold box

As JD said, there might be a slight difference but try them and see, it would be interesting to see how they do shoot compared to a new recently bought box.

Unless they are in the old tabless opening boxes, they would have to be later than 2002. Partitions are still in a black and gold box. At 3300+, they should do just fine for accuracy and for killling power.

Well, they don't go bad. I still have some from that era (.270 & 7mm) Partitions around somewhere. I think they are at my son's house and he does not reload. I killed a bunch of deer with those bullets and a few elk. I have been shooting Partitions since 1965 when they still had screw machine jackets on them (made from barstock).

I have at least 10+ boxes of Nosler Partitions including some from the late 60"s with machine marks on them in Yellow Boxes. Most are from the 80's and 90's I would not hesitate to use them as long as my gun was sighted in with them. They are a great bullet.

I am not worried about how they will perform I am jsut concerned that if I use them and take the time to get them shooting good if I like them will the new ones perform the same

I am sure it will be close

In my 257Wby, 30-06, 300Wby, 338Win and 340Wby the new partitions really preform well. The 210gr was outstanding in my 338Win Mag. I think they would preform as good if not better than the older Partition. I have used the Partition since the mid 70's and some old boxes of them that my Dad and Grandfather used.
