You've had some good results using the 150 gr. Nobler ABLR in your .280 Rem. I've just started seriously playing with mine and have a fast load using IMR7828SSC. (3010 at Nosler's max load for the standard AB) Could I trouble you for the over all length of you load? I've been trying with the bullet just off the lands and as hard as those bullets are to find it just might go a long way toward giving me a head start.
Just the other day I was at my bib box sporting goods store when the man in charge of the reloading stuff told me when he saw me that he's just put a box, the only one they got on the shelf. I immediately went to the shelf and it was already gone. :( The last time they had any was a little over two years ago now. I bought both boxes. I'm trying to get working loads for the .280 and three 7x57s I have. My wife says I'm just. I think she may be right. But at least it a good form of crazy.

You bought both boxes when you had the chance. You are a hoarder!!!!

Good luck with that 280. I have one and hope to learn something about this as well.

Paul,

I'm 0.050 inches off the lands with this load. It develops 3020 (+/- 7) fps. I've taken mule deer and elk with the load. It sure killed them with authority.

Hey PJ, I had to back off to .100" ( did I write that right? :)) off the lands to get them to shoot out of my 280 with R22 ( about the same as 7828 in my book) I got great accuracy out of the 168 ABLR at .030" off the lands, go figure!? Send me a PM , I have a few 150s left we can trade for something!? Rev Jim

I looked to see why I settled on these are 0.050 inches off the lands. I almost always start 0.100 inches off the lands with bonded core bullets and monolithic bullets. I didn't write down my rationale; I tested at 0.050 inches and the load shot well. It was near the opening of elk, so I suspect that since it shot well and I wanted to use the 150 grain ABLR that year, I took what I had and have not looked back.

Thanks guys. Guess I'll just have to try seating them deeper. I really want to get that bullet to shoot in the .280 and (GASP!) my several 7x57s. Got lucky and snagged several hundred of the ABLRs from a guy in California who has to go monometal. Just got some more off this site so I can do some serious work. I'm gonna even try them in a Ruger #1 7MM Rem. Mag. One of those rifles will, I'm hoping be going elk hunting very late this year. Hunt starts December 31. What a way to celebrate the New Year.
