Hi guys

i have a few questions for the guys that love the 264wm.

my brother bought a ruger MK77 black and SS last year in this caliber

he is wanting to reload for it first batch of loads were soso. 55gr RL22 with 120 ttsx about a 1.5 group.

now hes thinking 140 pro hunter or game kings with IMR 4350 around 55-57gr

has anybody else tried this combo with good results? if not what other powders have you guys tried ?

thanks in advance matt

I've tried the 140 SGKs and they shot so so. Not as well as 130 ABs or 130 Berger VLDs.
Talked to the guys at Sierra when I was having the rifle built and the told me their go to powder was IMR4350. I used their load to break in the barrel.

The only other powder I have tried is WC872 which is a military ball powder used to load 50 BMG ammo.Since my rifle has a 28 inch barrel I needed a slower burning powder to squeeze all the velocity I could out of it.
I'm getting 3420 with the ABs and incredible groups.

I would opt for the slower burning powders that will give you at least 90% load density.

H1000, retumbo, imr7828, rl25 to name a few.

My 264 liked H4831 with 120 nbts.

Imr4350 is way to fast of powder these days for this caliber...I tried it in my 264 w/125g partitions and ended up with 5-6" groups at 100 yards...not exactly what I was expecting. H4831 w/120g nbts shoots 1/2"-3/4" at 100 yards. Don't know if its bullet or powder making that big of deifference but I'd bet its a cobination of the 2.

Good luck let us know how she turns out!

I tried to work with Retumbo for quite awhile with the 264. I had some great shooting, but on a whim, decided to give RL25 a chance. Man, I was not disappointed in the least. I am running Nosler Cases, CCI250's and the 140 AB and BT's out of mine at about 3180 with 67.6 grains of powder. It shoots really well.

I think Retumbo is a great powder in it though. I think RL33 will be better yet. I never went any slower than RL22 though. Which seemed to do really well, just not as fast as the 25 or Retumbo.

This was 3 shots at 300 with the 140 BT

I ran out of AB's but had a ton of 140 BT 2nds, so that is what I have been shooting out of the rifle mostly. I would say stick with the slow powders like RL25, H4831, Retumbo and maybe Magnum as well. I would bet if the rifle will shoot, it'll shoot one of them well.

Since I have found RL25, I have fallen back in love with the 264. It is really me if a shot goes wide anymore and they really hang in there well at longer ranges as well.

It's easy to love the 264WM, especially when you witness groups such as those, Scotty.

Scotty,

You have a winner buddy. Your 264 Win Mag rocks!

It took a bit of work with this one. It was the Winchester that tested my faith in them. Turns out it was the two lots of Nosler brass I had.. Should have know better than to doubt the Mighty Model 70...

Once the brass was sorted out. It took almost no time to make it sing. I really have no intentions of messing with it.. I wanna blast something with that 140 BT! I gotta think it would be lightening on deer!
