I did not expect those powders and those velocities. HMMM. I think I have a little Re-17.

Thank you Dr

That is definitely stepping out there. I do like the looks of the Swift. Weird that it fell into disfavor.

I've read a lot of stuff about why the Swift fell out of favor. I think the Swift is kinda like the .270 win. Its the one every other one is compared to and everyone tries to come up with some reason theirs is better. But I think Winchester killed it by dropping it from the model 70 line in '64. But I've always found the Swift to be fascinating. I did not expect to find anything that would push the 60gr at 3900 fps.

I would think that with the 60 grain PT at those velocities, it would punch well above its weight class.

Hmph, JD I happen to have 1000 of those I got from SPS for my AR and have never worked with them. Never gave them a thought for the Swift.

Well, now you've been stimulated! Should be fascinating.

Excellent. I think 3700-3800 fps will be impressive on game. Run one into the jugs for us.

I never fired bullets into water jugs. I may have to give it a try.

3900 from a 60 gr bullet is smoking. Gotta love the Swift. Have had mine for 23 years. Bought it new in 1992 and it's truly the one gun I would never part with. It's the most accurate factory rifle I own, by far!
Just employed it for the first time as a hog gun this summer. It flat out hammers them. Precision accuracy and very little recoil. I was surprised what a 55 Gr Ballistic Tip at 3800 fps will do to a hog. Kills em just as dead and fast as my 257 Wby and 6-06.

Normally don't get pass though's with the 55NBT, but the hog below was an exception. I stuck a milk weed in the entrance and exit holes. Since the exit hole was so small, I figured it was probably a fragment. Nonetheless, it was big enough to bleed quite a bit from.

I've shot lots of coyotes, a bobcat, lots of javelinas, and a couple deer with a .220 swift. My bullet of choice was the old Nosler 60gr solid base. All were drts except one deer that got away. A hunting partner killed the deer two weeks later. It suffered no ill effects of a 60gr solid base between the horns of its vertebrae. A 117 Sierra BT through the chest did the trick though. I've not killed anything but time with my new #1 swift.

Wow! Very cool. Always loved the Swift. With bullets like the PT and BSB it really ups the ante some.

I made it to the range yesterday with some swift loads. Both loads were with Hornady cases, Fed 215 primers, 42.0grs of Reloder 17. Bullets, 60gr Partition and 64gr BSB. The Partition olad averaged 3974 fps and grouped around an inch. The 64gr BSB shot at 3828 fps and grouped around 1/2".

I was a bit concerned about the 60 gr Partition load when I looked at the chronograph on the first shot. I was thinking perhaps I wasn't going to easily drop the lever on the number one. But it opened and ejected easily. But Holy cow batman, 3974 fps.

That's pretty serious stuff! Man, that would smack deer like a lightning bolt.

That is OUTSTANDING, Bruce...shooting with that oughta make it seem like stuff dies before you even pull the trigger!
