Can someone run a quick load for me? The powders I have to try are IMR 4166, IMR 4064, and ramshot big game. Thanks in advance for any help.

What is your case capacity?

JD338

I have an old quick load saved on my phone and it says case capacity is 76.826 I’m definitely not 100% sure on my fire formed improved cases.

I’m not sure if I did it right but I weighed water capacity on my scale at home and new unified brass I got 93 gr of water and on 1X fired brass I got 97 gr water capacity

Deoxygenate the water by letting it set out overnight in an open container. Tare your fired case with the expended primer still in the primer pocket. Carefully pipette deoxygenated water into the case until it forms a convex meniscus. The weight of the water is the case capacity overflow.

Greetings from another 416 Taylor owner.
GRT shows these max loads with a 25.5" barrel:
72.0 IMR 4064 2527 fps
73.0 IMR 4166 2528 fps
79.0 RS Big Game 2560 fps
If you can find some RL-17 it really makes the Taylor hum.

Thanks! What is GRT that you got that data from? I mainly only find load data for 400 grain bullets which I never use, I almost always use 300-350 bullets on whitetail. I’m pretty sure I have some RL17 left possibly

GRT => Gordon's Reloading Tool is like Quickload, but is free and not as comprehensive.
My 416 Taylor sports a 24" barrel, but 83.6 gr of RL-17 pushing a 350 Speer GS delivers 2622 fps and 5344 fpe in my rifle.
It's a max load, and you really don't need to load it that hard to get performance in the field.

Make sure to put “a chin strap on your hat” before using that thing!! lol

Ran across this load data for the 416 Taylor

Thanks for all the help guys! I don’t remember my exact load with RL 15 was without looking through my notes, but I know it was 2610 fps. That’s what I was hoping to get too with these other powders or pretty close. I know with the improved case and RL15 I got right up at 2700 fps but backed it down around 100 fps.

I was finally able to get the case capacity in water like you mentioned DrMike. I came up with 96 gr of water capacity on 2X fired Norma brass. I noticed on the quick load it said H2O capacity was 78.57 gr of water. Why is their so much difference between quick load and what I measured? Just curious if if they measure a different way or what.

The 78.57 grs is the usable capacity of the case , the amount under the projectile. My version of QL lists 92grs H2O as overfill capacity.

Ok thanks, that makes sense now. I measured 92.4 on a new unfired fired case. And 97 on a fully formed improved case that’s been fired 2x. I guess the improved case has some more capacity. I was doubting the improved case was much different, but I guess there is some difference.
