I have been trying to understand the quick load data that has been posted on various sites. Could someone please explain how this is better or worse than the load books from the different manufacturers?

I hope that this is not taken as a silly question. I just want to know if this is something that I need to invest in.

The data provided by major bullet and powder manufacturers is pressure-tested. Therefore, if one follows the recipe provided, it will fall within the guidelines, provided their chamber meets the specified measurements. QuickLoad projects pressure given SAAMI conditions, based upon samples provided by powder and bullet manufacturers. Thus, QuickLoad is not a substitute for pressure-tested loads, but a guide to suggest areas to explore for the hand loader who follows appropriate safety procedures. Regardless of whether one uses QuickLoad or data supplied by a major manufacturer, the hand loader is responsible to work up the load carefully ensuring that his/her chamber and rifle do not cause excessive pressure.

As Dr, Mike pointed out, QL is just a computer simulation. The accuracy of the results cannot exceed the quality of the inputs. That said, QL can provide some advantages such as being able to vary case capacity and barrel length, and cartridge OAL to reflect your personal rifle.

With several good books, QL, a chronograph, and an inquisitive mind, the handloader can explore more loading opportunities, just do so carefully.

From Q/L

C A U T I O N : any load listed can result in a powder charge that falls below minimum suggested
loads or exceeds maximum suggested loads as presented in current handloading manuals. Understand
that all of the listed powders can be unsuitable for the given combination of cartridge, bullet
and gun. Actual load order can vary, depending upon lot-to-lot powder and component variations.
USE ONLY FOR COMPARISON !
