Thanks, Mike. I did glance at an open copy while in Cabela's looking at powder. Figured I'd give the AB's a shot with RL22, then I'm on to other bullets in search of better accuracy.

As with any recipe, charges may require increase or decrease. depending on a variety of factors. If you see 3050, you're pretty near max. My rifle actually gives me about 2970, which is more than adequate for killing most game.

I'd like to get solidly over 2800 and have excellent accuracy. Velocity, to me, is secondary to precision.

...you might want to consider RL-17 (start= 62gr./ max= 66gr.), temp. stable, very good velocities & accuracy, low ES/ SD w/ a wide selection of bullets (Nosler, Speer, Sierra, Hornady, Berger 165, 175, 180gr.) out of both my .300 WSMs...

Thanks a lot! Much appreciated!

wildgene, I'd looked at RL17. I might still try it. There was something that stopped me from trying it, and I forget what it was.

I would think RL22 should work really well in your 300 Tom. I have had excellent luck with it in many other similar cartridges, and also in the bigger WM. Never thought about RL17, but being a 4350 burn rate, but supposed to be FPS faster, it just might be excellent. Wished I was closer, I have some you could try. I imagine you should get up to 3000 pretty easily and anything over that would be gravy. Scotty

...the deal w/ RL-17 is it was designed for use in the short mags, not a lot of data for it so you need to do the load development, but where it works it works very well. It's also very temp. stable, pretty important around here where the temps. can easily vary by 50* in a week, day, or even hour when you go from 5K @ the range to 9K @ the bottom of the rocks in 30mins...

If I was mass producing 300 WSM ammo, RL-17 would be high on my list. It gives top velocities when compared to other powders in an uncompressed state. But if you are just going to load a box or two at a time, and don't mind compressed loads, there are better powers.

A_S, which ones are better? Just wondering. Have the 300WSM on the brain. Scotty

Well, for a heavy bullet, there is good number of the usual suspect:

Thanks A_S. Seems like V570 and 560 are pretty awesome as well. Also looks like MagPro is really working it as well. Really looking forward to getting my hands on a proper 300WSM. Scotty

N570, MRP or MRP2 would be a severely compressed load, which takes away some of the possibility. N560 and MagPro each work very well for me, however. I use quite a bit of N560 and N550 in my loads.

Ah, got it. I didn't see that Mike. Either way, there are a bunch of great powders that seem like it will get it up over 3K pretty easily. My money is on RL22 for Tom... Scotty

RL22 is a great powder in the 300 WSM. Recently, I've had even better accuracy without sacrificing much velocity using RL19. Interesting.

I haven't messed with RL19 in the WSM's but I would bet it would work well in the 300.. Scotty

Tom, this may sound strange but you may get better accuracy with the Partition 180 in the .300 WSM. The AccuBond is very long for weight and in some rifles does not shoot as well as the Partition in some calibers and weights. Give it some thought anyway. Mine (.300 WSM) really likes the Partitions in 165 and 180 grain but mine is a Browning and may shoot differently than your Model 70.

Good observation on the PT. Mine tends to like the PT better than the AB. I'm quite content to shoot PTs rather than ABs.
