So, I've never looked into this Quickload stuff much, other than to see the various posts about it. But I'm going to start work on a load in a new caliber, and I thought I'd see what it had to say. If one of you would be so kind, here are the knowns:

Caliber: .45 Colt
Brass: Starline
Bullet: Speer 260gr JHP (#4481)
Powder: Hodgdon H110
Primer: WLP
COAL: 1.590"
Barrel length: 20"

Anything else needed?

Thanks in advance,
Brian

Thank you very much! Can I ask one other favor? Can you run the numbers again, except replace the Speer bullet with the Nosler 260gr Partition bullet? I want to compare the results.

Interesting. I guess I should have mentioned to change the COAL out to 1.650" with the Partition bullet, as that is what is shown on Hodgdon's load data. They are showing a load range from 23.5gr to 24.0gr with that bullet. Since you ran it with COAL set to 1.590" as we did with the Speer bullet, it looks like we start getting into dangerous territory well before that, according to Quickload.

Another question: Does Quickload distinguish between normal .45 Colt loads, and the higher pressure "Ruger" loads? I'll be loading the +P ones.

no , in 45 colt I have saami and CIP , no +P . CIP is Europe . the CIP is loaded to 15954 PSI . the saami is loaded to 14000 PSI .

Yeah, the SAAMI spec is very weak, due to the old guns that were originally chambered for it. But newer models that are built for it, like Ruger Blackhawk and rifles from Marlin, Henry, etc. are capable of handling much higher pressure.

You will have to carefully increase charge weight until the cases stick a little when you extract them. Then back down a bit. I've done that w/ any wheel gun. good luck.
