SB6.5 did really well in my old Rem 270 barrel and kind of picky with the bullet it likes in the new Douglas barrel. Like any others just find what they like. I do like this powder. Dan.

It was a very easy powder to work with. Flows like water, didn’t seem spikey, great velocity, and finding an accurate load was very easy with no fuss. Tightest group with the charge my rifle likes at .030” off the lands and I was done. Clean burning and recoiled seemed a little less compared to IMR4831. There wasn’t any difference in the 2 powders performance with regards to accuracy, velocity is close enough to call equal, but SB 6.5 charges can be thrown and be within .1 grain as checked by scale. Haven’t noticed any copper fouling with either because I use TubbDust. Looks even better in the 30/06 but I haven’t tried it there yet.

Dan I’ve got 130gr Hot Cor’s, SST’s, BT’s, and even a few hundred Federal Power Shock bullets i bought from Grafs. I could send some if you wanted to try and find a combo it likes.

Joe, I appreciate the offer, but I have most of those. Hunter and IMR 4831 has given me good groups with the 130gr bullets. SB6.5 is doing well with Sierra 150gr Game King. You wouldn't happen to have a spare box you'd sell me, would you? Dan.

Unfortunately, I don’t have any 150 grain bullets at all for a 270. If I need a heavier bullet in .277 I use the E-Tip, or Partition. They usually let it punch a little above it’s weight class.

If you’d like to try a mono I could hook you up with a pack or two of E-Tips if you can’t find any. That’s about the extent of what I have on hand for the 270 Win right now. 56.1 grains of Staball 6.5 runs them at 3150ish in mine from a 24” barrel. 55.5 grains IMR4831 gets the same 3150 with them if you think the IMR would be more agreeable with your barrel.

Thanks for the offer, Joe but don't think I'll try the E-Tips at this time. Have enough 130 and 140s to play with. Dan.

Good deal. I’m sure you’ll get the performance you’re looking for. I’ve always had pretty good luck getting 270’s shooting well. Keep us posted on how it goes. 👍🏻

I did a little ladder test in the back yard yesterday. Looks to be a spot around 56.5 grs at 3110 fps. Not bad for a 22" barrel. I had to be very patient in 100 degree temp. The barrel got hot as a fire cracker real quick. I took it back in house after each shot to cool us down.

Bruce - ya, gotta take care of the barrel. Nice that you can shoot so close to your house!

56.5 gr is max for the 270 with a 130 gr Barnes TSX according to Hodgdon. Best of luck with it this season.

Guy

I use a barrel cooler made from an air mattress pump and a piece of plastic tubing. Helps to cool the barrel down. Place the tube on pump and other end in chamber. Hold in place with the bolt shoved against it and good to go. Magneto, I think it is makes a small one that fits in the action. Dan.
