It was 70 and humid this morning when I hit the range. I shot my 5 rifles again today. Here are the results and some pictures.

Ruger 30-06 I have had this rifle for 20 years and it has never had an issue. Today, I tried to fire 4 shots and only one of them fired. The other 3 look to me like it was a light primer strike. I will have to take the bolt apart and clean it up. What would you do with these three rounds???

30-06 rounds that did not fire

Ruger 25-06
I shot a .594” group and had speeds of 3447, 3419 and 3442fps with RL19 and an 87grain Sierra bullet

Ruger 22-250
.619” group with speeds of 3535, 3494 and 3514fps with IMR 4064 and 55 Vmax bullets

6.5 Grendel did well again with 2 3 shot groups using 107 Sierras and IMR 8082XBR
Group #1=.800” Group #2=.496”

338WM with 225 Hornady bullets and RL19
73.5 gr-2765, 2777 and 2766fps Group size= 2.023” @100 yards

74 gr- 2794, 2744 and 2783 fps Group size=1.693” @ 100 yards

74.5 gr-2784, 2787 and 2788 fps Group size=1.829” @ 100 yards

Here is a picture of the primers from the 74.5 load. Do you see any issues? There was no heavy bolt lift.

I am a little upset about the 30-06 and hope a good cleaning will take care of the issue. As far as the 22-250, 25-06 and 6.5 Grendel, I need to start shooting them at 200 yards to see if my loads hold up.

What are your thoughts on the .338? Go up a little in powder charge? (No signs of pressure) Play with seating depth? Try H4350?

I would load the 06 one at a time and refire. the light hits could have made these primers sensitve and I would not try to pull them. Also put afew drops of Kroil in the bolt to soften up any dry grease.

When I get 2 close and one out it's usually a sign to seat them deeper.

I agree with Heath, seat them deeper and retry.

How much deeper would you try and would you pick one for the charges as the load to use when testing seating depth.

1/4 turn on the seater, or about .005". You should be able to walk it into the group.

As JD338 said, 1/4 turn in on the die for 3 rounds then 1/4 turn in more for next 3 and so on. Yes pick one of the groups fired or work up to max then try bullet seating adjustments.

What is your COAL now with the 225?

I would continue to work up till you are running in the mid 2800's with that bullet. Then tweak for seating depth unless your happy with your current speeds, then, just start tweaking as Bill and JD mentioned. Either way, it looks like it is coming together for you.

Like Scotty said either add more gas or adjust depth don't do both at the same time. I had a friend do that with a 22-250 and he was amlost menatally insane by the time I helped him get back on track.

Most of my rifles shoot best on the upper end of the charge levels and most of my rounds are no where near the lands. My 7wsm looks like Beetle Juice after that witch doctor sprinkled head shrinking stuff on his head.

The 25-06 is nice. Are you working on a coyote load? If so you're there.

The 25-06 really does not have a role right now. I just enjoy shooting it. I have some PTs to try in it for deer but I would love to see the 87gr Sierra hit a coyote. I know what it does to my gong at 200 yards and it is shocking compared to the 30-06 and 338WM even. The speed is there.
