I noticed that on the page for the 22 caliber 60 grain BT that it says for a rate of 1 in 10 twist or greater. Is this just required for the heavier 60 grain bullet for stabilization? What are the rate of twist recommendations for lighter bullets like a 45 or 50 grain in 22 caliber.

My Savage 1:9 stabilized everything from 40-60. Have not tried heavier.

The main reason I'm asking is that I'm looking to buy a coyote gun in either a 223 or a 22-250. The rifle that I want has a 1-9 twist in 223 and 1-14 in the 22-250. I know I'll probably be shooting at least a 50 grain bullet and might try the 60 grain BT. I'm really torn between calibers and probably won't be shotting anything over 300 yards.
Either will probably shoot a 50gr, but the 1-14 twist probably won't handle a 60 gr ball. 55gr is generally considreed max for 1-14 twist; I can't find a 55 gr ball my Rem 700 22-250 will shoot (good with a 53 gr match, or lighter ball, though).
Given vatiations among rifles, its possible you could fine a 1-14 twist which will shoot a 60 gr ball, but if I was certain I wanted to shoot a 60 gr I would go with a 1-12 twist or faster.

A lot of .22-250's really don't like even 55 grain bullets that are a little long - like the poly tipped boat-tail versions.
Try a good flat base hollow point or soft point in 50 grains though and they'll do remarkably well.

My 22-250, in 788 REM will not shoot the mil-spec 55gr FMJ bullets at all. Shoots 3/8 with the 52/53 gr Sierra match bullets.

my 223 remington in a ruger 1 in 12 twist loves the 60 grainers,,,as a matter of fact with my load of 23 grains of imr 4895 it'll shoot 1/2 inch groups at 100 yards,,,this load is 1/2 of a grain lower than noslers book minimum,,,i played around with it for awhile and if i go to book minimum or to max,the groups get bigger.i might try 1/2 grains lower than 23 grains an 1/8 of a grain at a time,,,i won't go under 22 1/2 grains,,,i'm not interested in speed,,,i like accurracy and no groundhog is going to notice a couple hundred fps slower,,,thanks
