RCBS 44 Special 44 Magnum Die setup

I bought a set of RCBS 44 special/44 Magnum dies from a buddy of mine and the instructions don’t say anything about what the spacer provided is supposed to be used for? Any help would be appreciated.

Set up the dies for reloading 44 special, add the spacer and its set for 44 magnum. Its been over 35 years since I reloaded any 44 mag but that's what I recall.

Bruce has it right. Way before RCBS threw in one of those rings, I made my own. Once the .44 SPL. dies are set up just use the ring. FWIW, I don't use the ring on the resizing die but do with the expander and seating die. I do the same with .38 Sp;./.357 Mag when I load those. Works like a charm.
