Done with load work up for the 6mm rem and the Nos 100 gr PT .
I'm thinking any cow elk foolish enough to get in the old mans scope will be in serious trouble.

Yeah there's 5 in there at 100!

Very Nice shooting and load !!
Shoot well and it will go just fine.
It's been my experience that a 6mm / 100PT just performs beyond expectations.

Should be elk meat on the menu this coming year. Best of luck to you on your hunt! Your load appears to be ready.

Impressive groups and I love the 6mm Rem but it is not my cup of tea for elk unless you are disabled and can't shoot something bigger. I am a old man also with a .257 Roberts (same:same) but I would use my .30-06 or .338 Federal for elk.

Wow nice shooting? What is your rifle/scope/load data? That is impressive!

Well the rifle is nothing to special to look at but sentimental value is high.
Rem 788/ leupolds rifleman 3x9 . I may have cherry picked the best group, lol , it's mot often I get all 5 tight like that with out a flyer.. The other groups in the load work up were anywhere from 2-1moa. I stopped at 42 grs of IMR 4350, bolt lift was snug at that. The load I went with was 41.5 gr 4350, Cci 200's, in Rem brass. I seated the PTs to fit in the box mag, and I never looked to see how far off the lands they are. I find if your loading for a hunting rifle with a box mag that worrying about where the lands are will drive you nuts.
I ussually like Hy-brid 100 but my supply is getting low, and I hear rumours it is discontinued, I have lots of 4350 so went that route. Need to chrony and shoot out to 250-300 yet, as my sight in spot only lets me get to 100.

Oldtrader I hear ya , not really my first choice either but do to a few circumstances it will have to do. Dad is travelling to Calgary for Xmas and doesn't want to be packing his trusty rusty 7mmRM in and out of hotels with all the other stuff . His 7 is braked and his shoulder doesn't give him much lee-way in the recoil department. He even had me put a limbsaver on the other 6 mm. So my battery of rifles doesn't appeal to him, it's a cow tag and if things go the way I hope all shots will be under 250 more likely 100 or less. They are raiding farmers feed yards so we plan to set up
An ambush depending on wind. I am just chief cook and bottle washer on this hunt lol. I have a buddy with a wife that drew the same tag so we will likley team up.

I have a 788 in 6 mm. Had it for about 35 years. Not selling it either. Kind of looks like heck (I haven't exactly babied that rifle) but it keeps putting them where you point it.
Terrific rifles and accurate as heck.
That's a great load. I shoot a very similar load in mine with similar results. Tell dad to take his time and you'll ambush an elk.
Good luck!

Merry Christmas and best of luck. As an aside, the best hunter I personally know is from Santa Clara Pueblo and hunts with nothing but a trusted pre-64 M70 in 243. Although over 65 years old and passed down from his grandfather, the rifle still shoots the lights out and he is absolutely deadly with it. Every year, he and his boys continue to bring home their elk and deer with it. Put a good bullet in the boiler room from any reasonable range, have your knife sharp, and your game bags ready.

Well hunt is on hold , I came down with that lousy flu over the Xmas break, and Dad gad to go back to work in Edson yesterday . We have until Jan21 2015, to get this tag filled, I'm hoping he gets back here in the next 10-14 days or so.

The best laid plans... Sorry to hear about the delay. Here's pulling for you and your dad to make this trip shortly.

There is a lot of that flu going around right now. I am been sticking pretty close to home as I really don't what it in this house.
Super-7, I sure hope that you & your dad can get a few days in together and make this hunt work.
Still looking forward to a great story with photos.

Blessings,
Dan
