Hi Folks,

I just got this Die and was wondering whether it needs cleaning before use or not.....

If so, what should I use ?
Something like Hoppe's would it be good ?

Thanks

I clean all my dies when they are new. My preference is hornady one shot cleaner, works like a charm.

I cannot imagine why it would need cleaned. Look in the instructions that came with it. Some companies do recommend cleaning their dies before use.

When I clean a die I usually use Hornady One Shot Gun Cleaner and Dry Lube.

Those Redding Competition Seater Dies are a very nice tool.

I do not have the products you are mentioning..

I do have Hoppe's and Robla (the latter quite a bit strong though)...

What if I use gun oil ? Does it cut it ?

Redding recommends cleaning if needed and I am not sure if it's the case (brand new die).

I use Hoppes to clean all my dies, and spray with brake cleaner after Hoppes.

Ok Doc...then I am all set

FWIW, I use a dowel that is near the size of the die and a regular patch to clean the interior of the die.

I think reddington uses a thick oil for protecting their dies. If I remember right Both sets 223/221rem needed cleaning before use. I just picked up the new hornady (tool) one shot since I ran out of the old OS clearner

I usually clean seating dies when I first use them. Mainly because I do not want to transfer any oil to the outside of any handloads, especially at the bullet/case neck junction
