Well I picked up my Rem 700 SPS Tactical this afternoon. Got a leupy base and rings. Got back to my son's place and after dry firing the trigger several times adjusted the mark 4 trigger as per instructions. Put the base and rings on and then when I went to check the trigger pull again everything was locked up. I can't move the safety, trigger won't pull and the bolt will not move.

What the heck is going on?

Probably the overtravel screw is in too far. Pull the trigger and back the screw off until it goes off and then add 1/4 turn.

Now the only screw I touched was the one that is exposed and is for changing the trigger poundage pull. So ?

Sounds like a base screw is too long and hitting the bolt.?? You did say you attached the base so maybe that's it...

I would back off the base screws until you can get the trigger to work. If that doesn't fix it then reverse the adjustment in the trigger until it works. Something should show itself as the problem.

Yup, I agree...maybe wrong base/screws is making it lock up..They should be good and tight, so maybe that's the problem..no need to back them off, they should be tight and the action should work very smooth...Lou

Thanks a lot for the input guys. I got back from going out to eat and checked the rear screw of the front base.....ding, ding, ding that was it. Loosened it up and the bolt came back nice as could be. With the bolt pulled back I tightened down the screw again and the bolt works just fine. That seems kind of weird but hey, it works so thanks again. I really appreciate you guys fast response as I am heading home tomorrow and if it wasn't good to go it would have drove me nuts until I had it figured out. So thanks again!

Depends on the brand, but some bases come with a variety of screw lengths for obvious reasons.
Glad you found it!

I've never had a problem like that and never heard of it happening so again thanks for the help.

In the standard Leupold base pack you will find four screws. Two long screws and two short screws, the two short screws are for the front base. If either of the short screws bottom out when tightened, they need to be shortened or replaced not just loosened. Bolt not moving can also be caused by the front action screw.Rick.

It depends on the Leupold base models, some come with six screws for four holes, the user expected to figure out what fits.

I too picked up a SPS and once I desided I had the trigger pull I wanted which took a few mounths I filled the exposed portion of the screw down so it is smooth and not even noticed. There is now no adjustment so be sure you have it where you want it. I do not need it the stock trigger is crisp but I may get a jewel trigger this spring for it.

Yeh, it was 2 longer screws and 2 shorter screws. I've never seen that before...but I was in too much of a hurry to get em on and didn't pay proper attention. . What a knob.....
