Seen one of these yesterday in my local gunshop and it caught my eye. I've never been a big fan of the 223, but I"m thinking with the fast twist 1 in 9, I can shoot 69g SMK's or the 70g VLD, maybe the 75g AMAX for some cheep 600 or 800 yard steel banging.

I like the looks and feel of the rifle, 20" heavy barrel would be great for calling or a truck gun, and with the 1 in 9, it would be an ok choice for at least 600 yard steel shooting.

Only thing I didn't like about this particular rifle was the action. It was HORRIBLE! Felt like sandpaper. Definately not like any 700 I've ever witnessed. The SPS line leaves a little to be desired IMO.

Anyways, does anyone have one of these or know anyone that has one? How have they shot? Particularly interested in seeing how they shoot with the heavy bullets.

I'll probly go with 40g vmax for coyotes out to 400, but after that I'll stick the VLD's or AMAX's in.

I might try and sell my triple deuce or my 45 to get this rifle, but I"d like to do a little more research first.

We've sold a number in the store during this past year. I've heard no complaints. You are correct about the bolt. A little judicious buffing on the bolt may be in order.

Remmy -

The M700 VTR is the little Sister of that one. That is the exact reason I purchased the VTR was due to the 1-9 twist for the 70gr VLD's.
I had issues with the extractor right from the get - go ( The web is do or die, but google the newer remingtons and you'll see quite a bit said about the extractors )

Mine like the 60gr B-tips best at this point, but can't say right now I'm overly impressed with it.
I just posted some pics in the reloading section from todays outing with it.

I can say milk jugs at 500 no sweat........

I have same rifle but chambered in .308 for my truck gun. Shoots great but the action sucks like Remmy said. The finish sucked too until i got it Duracoated.

Woody, that 308 looks pretty BAD! Wow, what a nice truck gun! How far have you shot the 308 out too? We still need to get together and stretch our rifles out a bit! Scotty

Scotty,

It has been a good all round rifle since it's shorter than most of my rifles. I used it more than my 300RUM during deer season and killed a buck with it. Just over 100 yards with a 150 BT that drop him in his tracks. Worked real good in my climbing stand over the 300RUM with its 26 inch barrel. So far i have had the .308 out to 300 yards with good results. Depending on the weather we could be going to the 600 yard range sometime soon.

I am with you buddy. I just finished up doing some loading for my wifes Ruger Hawkeye 308. I have been messing with 180gr BT's, and had some 165gr Hornady Interbonds left from when I tried using them with my 300 Win Mag so I loaded up a small test batch with Varget. It is nice to carry and handle the little 308's. Hers is short compared to my bigger rifles and shoots surprisingly well for such a compact rifle. I am hoping to get down to my local range and shoot out to 400 with my 338 and 270WSM. Trying to really get load development done long before the Fall this year. Scotty

After shooting that buck with 150 BTs, i loaded up some 150 ABs and have been using them since then. I had alot of meat damage with the BTs. At 100 yards the ABs shot the same point of impact as the BTs.

They are going to be my next try if the 180gr BT's or 165gr HDY Interbonds don't work out. Scotty
