Rem. 700 VSF .308 Anyone have one? Need load tips

Hey all i bought a Remington 700 VSF ( Varmint Synthetic Fluted ) 1:12 twist barrel. I've been trying to work up a good load for the rifle any tips on a good load fror this particular rifle? Trying to get at least 2600fps or more and any bullet weight from 150-180 will work. Also trying to get at least 3/4 inch 3 shot groups at 100 yds. Thanks.

Desert Fox is right. That one page he linked has more .308 info on it than anyplace else I've seen. Great article.

For target shooting with your .308, it's hard to beat a 155 or 168 gr Nosler competition bullet loaded over Varget, IMR 4064 or H4895, but there are other very good powders for it too. Nosler & Lapua make excellent brass, but Winchester can be match prepped with little trouble. I prefer Federal 210 match primers, others like the CCI BR primers.

There are so many routes to a good, accurate .308 load, it's incredible. For max accuracy, pick one of the competition bullets, 155 or 168 grain, and build your load around it. Here's the load I most often shoot at matches:

Win or Lapua brass
46.5 gr Varget
Fed 210 match primer
155 gr Nosler comp bullet

This combo is seriously accurate at 600 yards (and beyond).

Velocity from my 24" barrel Remington runs right around 2850. From a 30" tube it's up around 2975 fps.

If you'd like to use a slightly heavier bullet, go with the 168 comp bullet and reduce the powder charge to about 45 grains of Varget for about 2700 fps from a 24" barrel. This is a very commonly used load, with excellent accuracy to 600 yards.

Please remember to work up to these loads, starting a few grains under.
