Remington 700 260's now with 1 in 8 twists

Just saw this, Remington is now putting a 1 in 8 twist on their 260 Rem bolt guns Should have done it 17 years ago but better late then never. The new SPS 260 Rem has my attention for a youth gun, glad I haven't pulled the trigger so to speak on a couple of guns that were offered to me as a trade.

And they are putting a 24 incher on the SPS too to get more velocity, they must have taken notice of the 6.5 Creedmoor and the somewhat dubious claims of extra velocity put out by Hornady.

I'll buy the first 8 twist SPS .260 I see.... because life is good with an 8 twist .260.....

I picked my .260 up at the 'smith in May. I've since run well over 500 rounds through it. I will say it's the most fun to shoot rifle I've ever owned. It's accurate as all get out... It shoots excellent high BC bullets that are available everywhere... and does it all at a very small price in recoil, with considerably more down range clout than anything the .243 can offer.

Last thing on this guys mind was a 123 Amax launched via 8 twist .260....

Shhhhhh, don't mention the CDL's with the 1-16's won't shoot, mine might hear this talk.. Mine has been real good with the 250's, and I don't wanna spoil it... :lol:

I am just fooling the 260 would be fun for small game and yotes.

I see where Weatherby is offering the Vanguard in 6.5 Creedmore with a 24" barrel this year in the synthetic stock for $645.

Just curious if anybody has actually had problems with slow twist in their Whelen? Mine shoots Barnes Original 275 spitzers just fine.

Actually the 1 in 16 twist Whelen's I had shot just fine, a bit more twist doesn't hurt though

Gene, we are looking for a T 3 for my wife, she handled my SIL's gun the other day and liked how light it was.

Any of the small 6.5's are a lot of fun to shoot and perform a lot better than people think. I have never found the 260 Rem lacking or the 6.5x55's in the past, the 6.5mm Creedmoor is more of the same.

I know they're listed, but I've never actually seen a T3 in .260....

If you keep an eye out they are available in 6.5x55 though...

There are some T 3's in 260 Rem that have made it into Canada, the 6.5x55 is more common though.

I remember when the 260 Rem was announced, I had just put an order in for a 7mm-08 a day or two before. The gun shop owner let me change the order to a Sako action when they used to sell them and a custom 260 Rem was born. The 260 Rem was introduced at the same time as the 7mm STW and was hardly noticed, the STW took off and fizzled out but the 260 Rem still lives, I bet no one would have bet that back then.

Fascinating you say that, Gerry. I wasn't at all thrilled about the 260 Rem. Now, I own two of them. It is a fine little cartridge, though it is neither flamboyant nor terribly exciting. It does what it was designed to do, and that is saying quite a lot.

It is accurate and doesn't kick much, it may not be the most popular round but it has stayed this long in Big Green's lineup so they must be selling them to someone. The STW seemed to take off like a rocket and it came down just as quickly, nothing wrong with the round just like I said who would have predicted of the two the 260 Rem would still be going.

The 1 in 9 twist Remington's certainly can shoot well, but even Remington themselves are admitting a 1 in 8 is better. Man we have an expensive hobby

The .260 handily out-performs my .308 at the 600 yard range, particularly if there's a gusty wind...

Am glad Remington is making the switch to the 1:8 twist.
