Has anyone got this mod on their remington 700? Do you like it or do you think it is an improvement over factory.

On the past I installed a sako style extractor on my Rem 700 STw
It worked fine for me, some say you compromise strenght-3 rings of steel- Its the first one I installed and the last one/ the lil Rem extractor has worked fine for me during the years and most of my rifles are Remys.
Ill keep the normal extractor.

Far superior than the flimsy factory extractor.

I have 700's with the factory extractor and the Sako type. Can't see any difference in performance. I have read the stories of factory ones failing but have owned close to 75 factory extractors without a problem so I no longer pay to have the Sako type installed.Rick.

In my experience if the factory extractor is going to fail it is an infant mortality deal (I broke a M700 .416 Rem extractor on shot #3). Otherwise they are energizer bunnies: they just keep running.

In the 70s this was a popular conversion, but I think the Internet and shooter boards now show how reliable the basic M700 system is.

I have owned and still own several Remingtons and all had factory extractors I have never had a problem with any of them. A friend of mine had two of his Remingtons "upgraded" with Sako extractors and he seen no difference at all in the performance.

Never had a problem with the Rem 700 bolts after 100s of rounds through 5 rifles. This is from 22-250 through 338 win mag. Probably 3500+ rounds overall at the range & hunting in extreme conditions. I'll keep my 700s "as issued".

The 700 is a much abused action on the net, but I still consider it the best, lightest & most easily tunable action for hunting here in the lower 48. All of mine shoot under moa with little fuss. It is much more difficult to get my mausers & M70 crfs to do the same. The regular 700 extractor is way more reliable than is commonly hyped up in type.

Let me change the argument a little bit. I understand everyone saying the factory 700 extractor has held up for them under all conditions they have thrown at it. Most everyone seems to be willing to argue it is not a needed "upgrade".

Is anyone willing to argue the sako extractor on a remington 700 is a downgrade from the factory if installed properly by a qualified gunsmith??

My friend's 7MM Ultra-Mag broke not once but twice. It now wears sako extractor with no problem.
