I just purchased a remington 700 sps in 204 ruger, with a 2.5x10x42 to top it off. I wold like to hear from some one about the 32 gr and40 gr loads. Wether there is much difference, other than barrel life, between the two loads.

I used 29gr or so of Win 748. Max load in my gun with the 32 v max at 4195 fps.

 I plan on useing the Nosler 32-gr bullets and possibly the 40-gr. My question is about barrel life. Pushing a bullet to that speed creates a lot of heat in the throat erea of any barrel. So is the 40-gr Nosler at the lower velocity that much easier on the throat of my barrel? One day at the prarie dog town mean hundreds of rounds, I would like to shoot this rifle for a few years befor rebarreling.

Why buy a rifle like that to shoot slow?? If you don't overheat the barrel, it should last as long with the 32 as 40 grain bullets. Overheating will do damage more quickly than the velocity difference.Rick.

 thank smoker. And i will take my 243 loaded with the 55-gr Nosler B tip; leaves the barrel at around 3850 fps, real flat shooter. Varget is the powder of choice.
