I like the military style sling to be able to wrap my arm into it, but not wild about the 1" leather strap when carrying the rifle on my shoulder so thinking it's time to try something new.
1" leather sling. My dad tried one of the fancy leather ones with the pad and leather work on it. That lasted about 1 day. It kept sliding off his shoulder.
The tactical interventions sling or TIS works well, the quick cuff goes on your arm and the sling quickly clips into if need be. Handy for shooting off of sticks or when you need more stability from a non supported firing position. The sling never has to be taken off the the rear stud or hook to do this. They are in the $70-75 dollar range and are made out of nylon and light weight. I have a few of these and really like them.
...I like the old type Butler Cr. foam, adjusted right they allow you to drop yer elbow thru, twist your wrist & have a very stable "Hasty Sling" that locks your support arm under the rifle & holds everything in place w/ very little muscle fatigue. Maybe not a "perfect military sling", but a helluva lot better than no support. W/ a little practice, you can run the bolt w/ very little change in PoA...
