Ruger #1

I'd be happy as a clam with a good 7x57.. Awesome cartridge and just a bunch of fun to work with. Using modern powders and starting with 7-08 data wakes it up quite alot.

Have you checked out the data in the latest Speer manual? They show some pretty warm loads for the 7x57. Makes that 2900 FPS 150 gr. Nosler load look like it's not all that bad after all. They show a load for the 175 gr. bullet at 2700 FPS. (y)

I have the manual but I haven’t seen the data. May have to check it out again. Been awhile since I have messed with my sons 7x57. Thanks Paul!

I have owned a 6.5x55 and I still miss it dearly. I do have a ruger african 275 rigby and I really really like it! Only worked up load with one bullet before deer season, but plan on trying several other bullets this summer. Since you dont have a 7mm might as well get the old 7x57. Loaded up to modern pressures they are awful stout.

I had 12 at one point. Now I have an 1S in 300 H&H mag.

Shoots incredibly well with 180 BT's at 3070 fps

Fotis it's hard to go wrong with that classic rifle in great old 30 super. Beautiful combination and looks like it shoots lights out.

Hello guys,

It's been a long time since I posted. This thread caught my attention. I recently picked up a Ruger No. 1 International in 7x57 off Gunbroker after admiring both the Ruger No.1 and the caliber for years. It was made in 1994 and is in great shape. The bore looks virtually new. I'm a sucker for mannlicher stocks.

I was somewhat worried about accuracy given the No.1's reputation of being marginal shooters. I'm happy to say that I took her out today and sighted her in. Best group with factory ammo (S&B 173gr SPCE, 2379 fps) was 0.636" at 100. The next group opened up to 1.12" but still fine for hunting whitetails in Tennessee. I was impressed with the S&B factory ammo. I'll try to work up a better handload but it's great to have $17/box factory ammo to fall back on.

There’s a nice looking Ruger #1 Tropical on Alaskaslist right now for $850. .375 H&H though.

I have one of those. At this point I’m not willing to pay more then that for the 7x57. I’ve actually gone up to 950.00. To no avail.

6.5 x 55--7 x 57--the animal will never know the difference. but you have a Creed, so grab a 7 x 57. You dont need it anyway so might as well get something that says 7

where are you / still in Oregon ?

All right now I’m catching the #1 bug too. Darn y’all. [emoji1]. Better keep away from the brandy and Gunbroker.
