Ruger 77's

I have four Ruger CF rifles: a .220 Swift in a MK II V/T, a Hawkeye in 6.5 Creedmoor, a stainless .308 Hawkeye, and a .358 stainless in a McMillan.

On the wanted list: .257 Roberts, 9.3x62 African, and one of the 23" barreled .375 Rugers in SS/laminate. Though if I ran across a stainless Whelen and had the money, I'd probably get one of them as well.

Overall, I like them, but I like M70s better!
BK just imagine if they made a Winchester Classic or Featherweight in a 6mm Remington. I know I would fold like a pretzel!!

Oh I know Charlie, they both are great and both deserve to be way more popular than they are, but then again among us knowledgeable folks, they are!

David that is so true. Plus, the 6mm is a new cartrige, relatively speaking and has a superiority in case capacity to the .243.

Not much difference between a .243 and a 6mm, except for the fact that the 6mm is far cooler!

Heck, I would be happy to stumble onto a No. 1 6mm (when I have the cash, of course).

I sure like mine Kurt and would never part with it. I have no idea why I keep thinking I need a Mauser bolt (Winchester, Ruger, etc) in a 6mm in addition to the one I already have. Those number ones are flat out classy.

Like this.

A 6mm is a class of cartridge where I would buy another even if I have no need for it. Same with .222, 7WSM, .300 H&H, and .35 Whelen

You're on a roll, Kurt. Keep the list growing.

I just swapped 8-40 screws from my inventory and put Torx screws in the rings on my Number One. I also changed out the socket head screw on my .22 rings to Torx as well. Problem taken care of and now everything is torqued to 25 inch pounds.

Getting back to the original post, I have had 3 Ruger rifles and all were excellent guns.

77 MK II - blued/walnut 6.5x55 (that I should never had sold :( ) it shot almost any decent load into 1.5" or less, the better loads were in the 3/4" range.

77 MK II - ss/laminate 30-06 didn't have it as long but it shot the 150 gr Nosler E Tip into 3/4" sold it to help pay for our wedding.

77 Hawkeye - ss/laminate 375 Ruger, this gun is very accurate, sometimes it can be scary how good it can shoot. It will need a new stock at some point since it is showing signs of cracking at the tang. It can be a problem with the big calibers but not with smaller rounds.

Overall they are solid tough guns that can be very accurate, they all fed cartridges well and are a great buy for what you get. They are a bit heavy and the wood stocks I have had shot better when free floated. Should have gotten the 375 Ruger bedded, it likely wouldn't have had stock issues.

"sold it to help pay for our wedding"

One of the very best reasons I've ever seen for selling a rifle.

Good choice!

I believe you did very well, Gerry. It seems you got a good wife, and she is worth many rifles.
