I feel like a bear in a salmon stream, I don’t need any more but I just bought another one? A Ruger m77 338 win, made in the 70s near new condition, and very cheap. I hope it shoots, leupold will be happy again.

This is the only ruger i have, All the other rifles i have are Remingtons.

Jon

I'd have to admit that Scotty might be correct about a 338, but only grudingly so! Can't go wrong with a Ruger either. They build a great rifle.
David

Mine (6mm) was made in '69 and the early runs of the M77's are sought after rifles. Ruger put Douglas barrels on the early "flat bolt" models of the M77 to get that rifle off the ground and get it a good reputation right off the bat. If you have an early M77, you have a tack pounder...have fun with it!

Especially if you have a 6mm Remington Flat Bolt!!

From what I can tell it was made in 1973 I am not sure what a “flat bolt” is as I am not a ruger guy. All in all it sounds like it might be a find.

Those are really good rifles I have one in 280. Shoots great only minor issue with those is you can double feed them if you don't pull the bolt all the way back.

What is a flat bolt? Maybe a picture?

I have a .243 mark II and a .223 mark II
I did sell a .280 last year. I replaced it with a Weatherby .280 Ultra light.
Scope mounting is so simple and strong. I wish other rifles were that easy.
I like how Ruger seems to build rifles in unique calibers that others ignore. Ist one comes to mind is a 7x57. I kind of want one. Brian

.257 Roberts, .358 Winchester.

Is a .250 Savage too much to ask for? Or a .222?

Yes the 7 Mauser in that stainless RSI makes me weak.

For the uninitiated, here's what a Ruger Flatbolt looks like:

This is not my gun - and I don't currently own a Ruger of any sort (not that I wouldn't, I just don't) - but this is what they look like. I may have to keep my eyes open for one of these in an interesting chambering...kinda cool looking.

Man, that sure looks pretty sweet!

Dubyam,

Thanks for the picture of the Flat Bolt. Very cool. I will be on the look out for one.
If I find one in an interesting caliber it might have to come home with me. Brian

Ruger has chambered every one of those cartridges.

I know, but it's been a while since I've seen a .222 or a .250. Whoops, I take that back, I did hear about an International in .250 Savage. But on the other hand, they also disco'd the Number 1B.

And I have a .358. I was pointing out that the first two are or have been available recently. Not very good formatting on my part.

I think the .222 is the rarest of them. AFAIK only the export Mini 14 and a special run of M77MKII for Carpenter Technologies were chambered in .222 Rem.

Even though its gone from the website, the B is still being built and several are available from distributors.

Well I finally got out to the range and I was only able to get some Hornady 200gr SST ammo in 338 win. I live in a small town and don’t yet have dies for this gun. I stuck with the cheap theme and put a Burris 3-9x42 scope on it, and it shoots great. It shoots about ¾ of an inch at 100 off the bipod. I did some checking with ruger and it was made in April 74 so much for the ruger charts. Over all for around $550 total, it seems to be a great buy. Now I have to finish up the rem 700 classic 35 whelen.

It certainly sounds as if you found a fine rifle. Congratulations. It looks as if it will deliver the goods when you call on it to do so.
