Went out this morning with my dad and made a few stands. First stand nothing, no barks, howls or anything. 2nd stand, we saw 1 walking into the destination but he saw us too...We tried to circle downwind of him and call to see if hed at least come investigate, but no way. He knew the jig was up when he saw us get out of the truck...On the walk back to the truck after about 20 minutes of calling and nothing, we could see that coyote was still in the same place as he was 20 minutes ago, but there was another with him that we didn't see. They were heading across an alfalfa field so I decided to just head back to the truck. Got to the truck and decided to go a way in which 1 took off and ended up seeing him about 100 yards off the road, I bailed out and shot at him twice and missed both times.
So we decided to procede out back when we run into Jmad. We decided to hop in his truck and make a couple stands. Nothing, notta, zip. We decided then to just drive around for an hour or two and see what we saw since calling wasn't producing. We went into a canyon where there was a dead cow and few coyotes had been seen running around in there. We start up the bottom and off to our left about 400 yards away one pops out of the CRP and into the dirt field, but he got skyline real quick and we didn't shoot. We knew he would either be up by the road or just double back into the head of the canyon, so we turned around and went back the way we came and he wasn't in the dirt field at all so we knew he had to be in the canyon. We got on a road that headed down canyon and within a few hundred yards we saw him in the bottom. He took off up the left side. I bailed out of the truck and leaned over the hood barking and howling and making all kinda of noise trying to get him to stop but he was steadily making his way up the hill quartering out about 225 yards, I was using my 264 w/95g vmaxs at 3475fps and was out in front of him a few feet when I touched off. Almost instantly the dog did a front flip. About that time, another one popped out about 500-600 yards on down the canyon and jake took a shot with his 243 but came up just short. She was a big old female. Bullet caught her lower stomach and pretty much gutted her, works for me.
