I will be working on it as soon as the Wyoming winds die down. Anyway what I currently have on it is a Redfield revenge 2x7x34mm.

What do you guys think of the setup? Recoil and scope integrity?

Winds die down in Wyoming??? There always so bad, it keeps your Greece flag blowing in the computer!!! LOL!

OK. what about the rifle and scope?

I would think that the Redfield scope will work very well on your rifle. Unless you are just looking for an excuse for a new scope, I would see no reason to change. As posters are wont to say, YMMV.

So I take it the scope should go.....

The scope is new in box and "fits" the rifle perfectly.

Due to it's economical price and new to the market I am concerned with it failing in the field.

Understandable for sure. When is your next opportunity to use it in the field Fotis? Could it get a "good" workout between now and then?

Probably . I will use the heck out of it this winter

 ..x2 Fotis..I had to change 2 redfields on my 45/70  ..both my 270wsm and ruger #1 wear nothin but a leupold vx-3 8) ...they can take alllllot of recoil and plenty good eye relief to boot...Lou

I run an VXIII 1.75-6X33 on my .35 Whelen my other I put up for sale so I took the scope off of it but it was a VXIII 3.5-10X40. I felt like Goldilocks as neither are quite right IMO. The 2.5-8X36 would be my first choice as well but if the money isn't in the budget I'd pick up a new VX-2 in 3-9X40, the optics is better than the old Vari-X III on the sample list and it isn't a whole lot more money.

They have a VX-2 with CDS dial in the sample list as well and if work was more steady I'd grab that as I've been wanting to try the CDS. I'm not sure you really need a CDS dial for a Whelen, maybe if they come out with some LR Accubonds in the 260 grain range it would be useful. ;) However for $300 I'm sure if you didn't like it you could get that back in the classifieds.

I have a 1.5X5 VariX-III Leupy on my Whelen. I am thinking of moving that scope to the 45-70 and putting a 2.5 by 7 VariX-III Whelen. No real reason, but I would am happy with either choice.

Fotis, I really like the Leupold but if you have a chance on that Zeiss I would take it in a heart beat.

Blessings,
Dan

Fotis,

Go with the 1.5x6x42mm Zeiss 30mm Diavari.
Talk about a dark timber rifle!

That's a beautiful scope Fotis. The power range should work very well for you on that rifle and it won't look to large nestled on top!
