Scope Clearance

What is the minimum scope clearance for the objective that is enough for flex, but will not interfere with barrel or kick or get out of alignment? I am using conetrol mounts, and the actual clearance will be about 45 thousandths.

Have you considered that lense caps are likely out of the question? May be not I have not had to measure their thickness I'd guess .020-.030".

I put a 3-9x40 Nikon Buckmaster on a Vanguard. The scope sits close enough that I couldn't put the objective cap back on. Some side cutters and a small amount of material removal, the cap fits.

A stretchy rubber bikini type scope cover should work or a piece of inner-tube.
