Scope question

This is probably obvious, but thought I would ask to make sure.

I recently purchased a heavy rifle in 300 Win Mag and shooting the other day the recoil is not nearly the same as lighter rifles I have in similar magnum chambering.

Would it be safe to assume the lighter recoil felt by the shooter from a heavy rifle is less likely to batter the scope as much as on a lighter rifle with the same cartridge?

Yes, that is true. Additional weight of the gun will always make things easier on the shooter and optics, everything else being equal.
