I just scored some 8mm 220 Hornady bullets and now I'm set for any 220 grain bullet needs.

NICE! Great Score Bill. Looking forward to seeing what they do in your rifle. Those bullets around 2900 should be SWEET elk medicine! When you gonna get them out to the range for a run?

I have worked up an accurate load with them as I already had some, about 100 or so left. I'm getting 2960 with great accuracy but have not leaned on them any more. 2960 is fast enough for any NA animal and brass life is very good.

Bill,

That is great news, congratulations on the score.
I have to agree with you, the 220 gr at 2960 fps is some serious horse power.
Post a picture of those bullets.

Yeah, that is all you could hope for Bill. You gotta run those Hornady's into some jugs. They were supposed to be pretty tough.

I'll see what I can find for jugs to do a test. From what I have seen through use of Hornady bullets they are tough and perform very well on animals.

Yeah, that should be very cool. I know there are alot of fan's of the Interlocks for a reason.

Yep all one needs to do is kill some game with them and it's easy to see why they have a following.

Hi Bill,

What load are you using with the Hornady? I picked up 200 a while back, and hoping to try them out.

Ian I'm using 79.5 gr RL-22, fed 215 primer, seating depth to cannelure of bullet. Never tried to see where max is since that load gives me great accuracy, gives up 1/2 inch 3 shot groups at 100 yards when I'm shooting good 3/4 inch when I'm not, good 2960 speed, easy on brass. My fired brass indicates that I might get 1.0 -2.0 grains more in there but I'm not willing to trade brass life for a few more fps.

If you give it a try let me know how it does for ya.

Man, that is a killer load Bill. Hammer down right there. I am not sure if it'll get much better for elk hunting than that. Serious HP with extreme accuracy.

What is the BC on the hornady 220's. If I happen to run across some I will do the extra grain or so and use a couple of other powders to see where that 220 will go with accuracy and velocity. Sounds like a good load. Can't wait to here how it does on game.

I cannot speak specifically to the 220 grain Hornady bullet in your 8RM. I do know that I've had good success with smaller calibre Hornady bullets at similar velocities. It is great that you found the 220 grain Hornady bullets; one could only wish they were still manufactured. Perhaps they will be reintroduced in due time.

The BC is .464. It would be interesting to see what speed you would get as your barrel seems to be faster than mine. Let us know if you find out. Yes it's a great load and from past use of Hornady bullets on deer and elk I know it will perform very well.

Man I wish they would as these bullets are not easy to come by. I got lucky and found a bunch, well 370 anyways. If they don't I still have enough with what I had on hand for all my 8mm hunting needs.

Hornady bullets have seemingly always shot very accurate for me in several calibers.
