Scotty, don't let these guys warp your thoughts anymore on the .338 Win Mag. You got a good rifle with a solidly made aftermarket stock that shoots well and will kill most anything in its tracks, that you will ever shoot with it. I would still have a .338 WM if I had not bought the Weatherby .340. No flies on the .338 WM.

I agree, having sold good solid guns in the past I know sometimes the replacement isn't nearly so good and you regret selling the original one.

nvbroncrider,
You went from a 700 to a 70 but it's a pre '64! that's gonna be an awsome build. Your right... It's gotta be a classic. 35 Whelen?

No I'm still building the .280AI on the 700 already ordered the barrel and have the trigger. The Pre-64 was too good to pass up especially for the price. I'm kinda leaning to a 338-06AI ballistically it's the same as the Whelen AI but you have a better bullet selection. The ideas will float and maybe end up with a 6.5-280AI or a 6.5-284. I think Pac-Nor will end up loving me either way. That's all to be decided gotta find a stock too. How are the triggers on the Pre-64? I think I'm going to close my eyes and stay far far away from Gun Broker once I get my 700 stainless action.

The original triggers on the Winchester Model 70 are great, as long as you know how to set them up and adjust them. I have both mine set at just under 3 pounds with no creep and no backlash.

nvbroncrider,
The Mod 70 trigger is bullet proof. It isn't as nice as say a Jewel but it is simple and foolproof. It will never freeze or fail. It does take somebody who knows how to use the honing stones to make it sweet. Congrats!
