Shipping a rifle???

Guys, I have found I rifle that I must buy and I am going to have to part with a few. I think online will be the best place to move them but I have no idea the steps to ship a rifle. Any help is appreciated.

Any one looking for a Savage 10 Predator Max 1 in .260 with Badger 20 MOA base and Burris High Zee Rings lemme know.

Get on UPS' or FedEx's website and search for firearm shipping. I don't think it's to difficult, but I do believe they will only deliver to an FFL holder. PM POP, I know he has shipped a few rifles.

Edit 1: If you plan on shipping to CA, get on their DoJ website and find out what it requires to ship a firearm into CA. I know a lot of Gun Broker sellers won't ship firearms to CA as they do not want to deal with CA's crap.

As I understand it, you need to find a local dealer with an FFL. That dealer needs to fax or e-mail a copy of his FFL to the seller, the seller ships the gun to the local FFL, and you pick the gun up from the local guy. But I could be wrong... all my guns have been bought FTF. I worry that if I start buying guns online, I will slide down the slippery slope of spending every second of free time online looking for unusual chamberings in Ruger #1 rifles (.218 Bee anyone?) and every dime I make.

And yes, I was mostly joking about the second part. Mostly.

A guy just down the road has an early model Remington 700 Ti with a Brown Precision stock and he has a mucho goodo price and I need to sell a couple. No one around here really knows what a .260 Rem is so I need to get it on a couple of sites but i was unsure of shipping.

GunBroker.com is a good place to buy and sell - you will have to join but it's no big deal -selling costs a nominal fee and buying is no charge - they have rules for shipping but I have bought & sold dozens of guns on gunbroker and never once had a problem - avoid using paypal with any kind of "firearm" deal as they are rabidly anti-gun - usps is the easiest way to ship a firearm and they don't ask if you don't tell meaning they will ask if there is anything hazardous, flammable or explosive to which the answer will be "no", don't offer an explanation of what's in the package and they won't ask, at least that has been my experience in a number of PO's - UPS will only do firearms from a "shipping center" no UPS stores or franchised shipping centers and they will want FFL's - "IF" you are shipping to a service center for "repairs" or to a factory you can go direct to and from (if you get my drift) I wouldn't trust FedEx as they are private contractors and mistakes are very common with them (but I don't believe they are anti-gun or anything) I don't know your location but Mazama Sporting goods and guns in Eugene OR is great to deal with (ask for Dennis)

backcountryhunter, about FEDEX, yes and no... My wife has worked for Federal Express (FEDEX) for over 11 years. I have used their firearms shipping services with no problems. Federal Express is a corporate company. However, FEDEX Ground is a subsidiary of Federal Express, and that group is composed of contractors. Use FEDEX, not FEDEX Ground, and your package is insured, safeguarded, and guaranteed of delivery.

good to hear from an "insider" as I was told that they weren't "private contractors" but owners of an area franchise - I have a couple of "horror" stories from FedEx but then that can happen in virtually any situation - when I lived in Enterprise OR I had a FedEx driver leave a rifle in a rifle shaped box leaning in the corner against my shop door and I didn't know this driver at all (I always get to know my UPS drivers) and I had specifically told Bell Carlson NOT to send via FedEx (I was out of town and had the neighbor not seen the box and grabbed it who knows ?) AND I am just now living my latest FedEx "experience" - the company I work for has a BIG FedEx account so I used them to do a pick up for a wolf pelt I have been waiting for in Richmond BC, when I placed the pick up order I was succinct about what it was and the details and when the driver picked up the package whe was told thrice and clearly that it HAD to be stamped by Canadian Customs BEFORE leaving Canada and the next call I got was from FedEx in Memphis via US Fish & Wildlife chastising ME for not filing the proper paperwork AND the CITES permit that had been firmly attached to the package AND pointed out to the FedEx driver was nowhere to be found - That was May 20th and I just today received a call from FedEx telling me that they have been holding my package, "what do I want to do with it" ?? Can you understand my frustration with FedEx ? At least UPS openly declines to do those type of shipments ...

UPDATE: FedEx has told me they have the problem "resolved" with US Fish & Wildlife and my wolf is on it's way to me with no additional charges as it was their mistake - IF that is truly the case then FedEx has redeemed themselves in my eyes

post, post update on FedEx - they shipped the wolf pelt BACK to BC and have washed their hands of the whole issue leaving me to try and figure out how to navigate with US Fish & Wildlife since they first ILEGALLY took the package out of Canada and then ... ILEGALLY took it back and left me holding the proverbial bag !

DO NOT USE FEDEX IF YOU VALUE WHAT YOU ARE SHIPPING OR YOUR SANITY !!!

This is quite a saga. Their actions do not reflect well on FedEx.
