Shot the donor,

I'm in the process of building some rifles using the Savage platform and as I tend to overdo, picked up a few donors. (By the way, thanks to a member of the forum for his help!)
I know.....don't shoot the donors, but one was actually pretty nice and I had some loads for another rifle in the same caliber along with some time, so,,,,shot 4 at 100 not even optimized for that rifle and as you probably guessed, 4 in less than an inch. Darn.
So, what do I do?
Thought it was pretty funny after I laughed at others donor stories.

Never shoot Savage donors. They are savages they are accurate! Period.

Boy Fotis, that's no kidding.
My 7 RM is a Savage. It's a fine shooting rifle. This one is a 243. I was going to AI it and trigger and stock but guess I can't .

Don't worry you can always put it back to original whenever hou want. Just enjoy the journey, but I tear down my Savage donors right after I take them home.

Good point Chad.
The quick tear down is probably good advice also. Keep me from doing something like this again.
Thanks for the help!

Ones a 16 w dbm, Stevens 200s, and a 110.
I'm not being too picky on what model as, fortunately or unfortunately depending on your view, I have a few very different chamberings I want to mess with.

I bought my Savage 111 in 7mm Rm for a donor action I made the mistake of shooting. It is now the most accurate big game rifle I have ever owned, better than my Tikka even. I don't really look at it as a mistake now, but at the time. My dream of building a 280 AI is on the back burner now. Oh well.

Got mine yesterday. Savage 111 7mm rem mag with accutrigger and accustock. This thing is just too cool!

Dr Mike,
Yep, I believe.
Fotis,
Can't wait to see results on that 7.
Corey,
I completely understand now.

Ive got a Savage donnor in the safe....No scope (nobody post a VX-II in the classifieds...) I'm afraid to take it out....I know it is watching me....  CL

Made that mistake with a Donor Rem 721 I picked up. Ended up cleaning/sanding/ prettying/ tweaking it up a bit, mounted a decent 4x scope I had laying around and sold it at-cost to the father of an aspiring young hunter to give as a kick-butt graduation present. Included a brief write up of the history of the model and a target with 1.3" group I shot with HXP '06 military ball[/u. Also included a basic cleaning kit.

CL, whatcha going to build on that action?

Give you one guess and bet it ends in 250 Savage!

Probably right, but I'm hoping someone will try the .250 AI soon and let me know if it is worthwhile.

I'd consider the AI just to move up to the 110 AB. with a liitle extra velocity. Great round. The 250 was of course the original plan. However, Now that Dad is gone I just dont know if I have the skill or the heart to reload. It was somthing we always did together and it was part of the plan to swap the barrel w/ Dads help. I bought the 243 because I thought it was a good deal, off the shef ammo is cheap and there is much more variety than the 7mm-08.
Time will tell, but those are my other reasons not to shoot the donor. CL

CL, I had a similar problem after my son died and just had an awful time doing things we used to do together and some friends convinced me into honoring him by continuing to do the things we loved to do so much.
Show your Dad that he taught you well in honoring his memory.I would build the rifle.
God Bless

Very much so. I am betting your Pop's would smile looking down at you doing the things you did together.
