Shots per pound of powder

The only cartridge that I intentionally figured powder usage on was the 17Hornet. 700 rounds per pound really helps with the volume I shoot at sagerats! 17cal bullets are very reasonable as well.

Yes, high volume shooters, like sage rat & prairie dog shooters as well as competition shooters, really appreciate cartridges with small appetites for powder & the inexpensive bullets that go along with them.

I concider it only in high volume shooting, for me its shotgun shooting where 200 rounds per week is normal. My 28ga load using 13.0grs gets over 500/lbs while my 20ga load uses 16.7grs, my 410 uses 17.0grs.

For its size the 22-hornet works well with 12.5grs and next is the 221 with 17.0grs. One can do alot of shooting with these low consumers of powder.

Some of my lever action & old-time rifle friends, do a lot of shooting with cast lead bullets and 10 - 15 grains of Unique in various cartridges. LOTS of fun...

I used to shoot 30-35k pistol rounds per summer which is about 2 kegs of Titegroup. I'm shooting mostly shotgun now which burns much more powder and I'm still at 2 kegs of powder. I get about 3k 12 gauge from a keg.
