Deer season ended yesterday. Now that everything is almost cleaned and put away my mind has turned to what I need for next year. Alas, I have nothing on that list; my life is rather blessed and everything that filters through my grey cells are 'wants'. (I did though have pics of 2 bucks fighting this morning on camera. In the daylight the day after season! I needed that this past weekend.)
Today my mind turned to what I need to reload and practice with for next year. In the past four years I have double-lunged at least one deer around 100 yards with the following in .284:
Partitions - 140, 150, and 160
Accubonds - 140 and 160
Ballistic Tips - 140 (I had 160's loaded this year in my 7RM, I just wasn't on the same page as the deer on the days I carried it.)
[And one 150g Core-Lokt, long story]
I love to piddle and experiment, but I think I am done and need to settle in. Each of these Nosler bullets above (and some were blems) are so much better terminally than what I shot previously. Skinning and processing my deer reveal much.
And each of the three Nosler offerings have acted uniquely depending on speed and size - I shoot a 7mm08 and a 7mmWSM alongside my 7mmRM - but each offering is consistent to the bullet family. I truly have become a better shot and hunter by becoming a reloader. My product review is five stars for both accuracy and performance on animals. But I think for me going forward in the deer woods it will be the AccuBond (2800ft/sec+ of initial velocity) or Ballistic Tips (2800ft/sec and under). I really want to dial them in with just the right powder at just the right depth. Final context, I'm only talking the hardwoods of east Tennessee.
Again, many thank to many of you who have given or pointed me to the right information. And five stars, 10/10, A+ to quality hunting bullets.
