Small base 35 Whelen dies

It looks like I'm going to need some small base 35 Whelen dies. My gun extracts just fine with new brass and fired loads but subsequent firings on the same cases lead to hard bolt lift even on something like a Trail Boss load. I asked Redding about it and the tech had me try a bunch of different things in the end he asked that I send him the die with 5 fired cases, I just got it back and the die is within specs. He said Redding isn't doing any custom work right now so a die from them is out, he suggested getting a SB 30-06 die and having the neck opened, my chamber is tight in the rear of the chamber. I do have a SB 308 Win die that could be modified to size the base I guess.

Any other options for dies out there? I don't want to mess with the chamber since it shoots so well and also handles virgin brass just fine.

You might try Jim @ JLC he can make a die from a body sizer or may be able to open neck for 358.

I would cal Jim first see what he could do with SB sizer for 30-06.

gerry I believe that RCBS might build you a set of dies. If not check with Travis @ Corlane Sports when I had a talk with him I am sure he talked about getting a number of sets of custom dies made for some of his personal builds :wink:.

Thanks for the help I'll try those links, much appreciated. I looked at Lee's website and they say their Pacesetter dies will reduce them down so they will fit in any gun. That could be an option too.

What about polishing out your chamber. That might solve the problem from the other side of the equation. Just a thought.....
