Started 2015 with a smokey boom!

Congratulations on doing it the hard way. Using a flintlock has to be a challange and a half. Good shooting.

Flintlock only season is fun. Gets rid of the inline only guys. Glad PA kept the 3 week late season intact all of these years.

Not where I hunt in central PA. We are closed 1/10/15.

I think you can hunt 2 weeks longer here in Berks, etc. One of these years I will find a new place to hunt around here.

The pressure around Ontelaunee was pretty light this year. There almost have to be deer in there yet. If we could find a few more guys, we could do some pushes there....

It can be. I lost out on a good opportunity because the sear nose in my lock had sheared off. It's rare, but it can happen. Allen fixed 'er up quick and got the rifle back to the front, so to speak. I didn't hunt this evening because of damp weather and light rain. It can be done, but I haven't tooled up with a proper cow's knee yet, and other odds and ends. Thursday wasn't too bad. It was windy, but that's about it. The shot was 42 yards, so it wasn't long one.

I saw a doe the day before at 110 yards after a short stalk, but I couldn't get to a prone or seated position with a clear shot, and I'm not there (yet) to shoot that far off-hand. I can hit vitals at 100 offhand about 1/2 the time, which to me wasn't enough to take that shot. It'll be different till next December. :)

Remind me next year and I will get a local doe tag. Then I can run around after Christmas with the smokepole here too.

I was looking around for a local lease but I haven't found anything. I screwed up about 10 years ago or I would have been able to get a 50 acre farm for just posting and patrolling it. The problem was it was only 12-15 acres of woodland in 3 spots. Was more of an archery spot.

Thanks, Guy!

Still trying for one more before the curtain falls on the season on Jan 24.
