Well I didnt buy Pop's so I asked the Gunsmith at the local Gander Mt. about a similar rifle new and what he thought of 'em. He says, "we just took one in used, aint even made the rack yet." "Good rifle have several Savages that Ive built". He proceeds to show me a 300 RUM Savage thats his. Says the accu-trigger is Junk (of course he'd say that, hes not doin a trigger job on those). Any how long story short, I walk out of there thanks to a friend who loaned me the money, with a stevens that I dont think has seen a box of shells with a Pachmyer slip on pad for $200.00. It'll be a year or more before I get it paid off and can afford a scope and mounts, dies etc. but at least I got a project. I think I got a good deal.

The only thing it dosent have is Pops "secret recipie" and that 200 yard guarentee.... Wish te weather would warm up. CL

Good job! Let us know what you come up with. If I had a spare set of rings, I'd send them to ya. I cant wait to shoot Jordans. (ha! you thought I was gonna say mine didn't ya?)

CL,

Congratulations on your new rifle. You got a sweet deal for sure.
The 7mm-08 is a great caliber!

You're gonna love that gun, CL, and for $200, that's smokin hot as deals go - about $100 off new!

I'll see if I've got anything around here you can use as far as rings - I know I have a set of high rings that are Leupold front dovetail, windage rear. I don't have Savage bases, but then again, for not much coin, you can pick up bases and rings (under $20 shipped if you shop carefully) and be set right up. The glass is another story, but offhand, what did you do with the scope off your 250Sav when you got the gold ring? Maybe it's still sitting around? Or was it toast? Maybe somebody's got one they can spare around somewhere, or at least loan you until you get the coin for one of your own. Who knows?

Anyway, congrats on a great deal. You'll love the 7mm-08.

CL,
Congrats on your new 7-08 ! This is a great round and if it's like most of the rest of the 7-08's it'll probably shoot what ever you throw down the barrel fairly well. I haven't ever heard of too many finicky -08's

Mine shoots the 120's thru 150's very well. Load it with the 120's for your speed goats & 150's to 160's for elk. Huge bullet selection for the 7mm's

Again Congrats !

Hey CL,
Did you go with the diamond ear rings, or the saphire? I found out the wife wants a carpet steamer. I am afraid to make this a present, so I might have to let it go as a "needed item", and not expect a new rifle from it.

CL,

I agree with Powerstroke, the 120 gr BT would be a great starting point for you to load. Its one tough little bullet.

Dubyman-
Thanks for the offers. No worries though for the moment its enough to know that this one will not go into the "best deal I ever passed on" file. Feel just a little weird as I had the ole 250 Sav. to the range this weekend and she put three shots under a penny with a new load @ 90 yds. Load was 35 Grains of 4064 under a 100 grNBT. Do you suppose she thought she was gonna be replaced by the new girl in the gun cabinet?? (Sssh-Aint gonna happen) speakin of girls.... I convinced the wife the deal was too good to pass up and the "terms" wouldnt interfere with the budget. No jewelery required so far. She is holdin out for a car I think. CL

PS- yes the Bushnell tropy I took off the 250 is most likely the first scope it will see.
