Hi all,

I just placed the order with Weatherby for a new stock for my gf's Vanguard Series 2. Its a surprise for her upcoming birthday; she has been wanting a different stock then the plain-jane black one.

What will I need to put the new stock on her barreled action, and how easy will it be? I have a fat wrench and loctite already.

Tighten the trigger guard screws to the proper torque and in the proper sequence as follows. Always tighten the rear screw first to a torque of 35 inch pounds, followed by a torque of 35 inch pounds to the front screw. For wood and synthetic stocks this is the final torque value that should be used.

AJ this is a quote from a Vanguard 2 Manual and it should be 2 screws and barrel alignment should be only issue or any binding when the barrel and action seat! Pretty straight forward

Which new stock did you buy? If you bought a Bell & Carlson, then the screws are torques to 55 in-lbs. However, I still do it in stages with rear and front to 25, 40 and then 55 for example.

One of their factory Vanguard stocks in the new finishes they have out, the "Whitetail Bonz" compact stock.

My sole reaction is that since it is for your GF, she might wish to have some input into colour, finish, etc.

Already considered that Mike. She liked both this finish and their Hog Reaper, but the only one in a compact available was the Whitetail.

OK, then please DO NOT torque to the values any of us have mentioned in this thread.

Even Weatherby does not mention torque values for synthetic stocks. What you will likely be receiving is a synthetic stock with a "dipped" finish. The proper torque value is "tight, but not too tight." If you try for even 25 in-lb you will likely overtorque the screws. You can watch the plastic bend when you do this. Don't ask how I know.

Play with the values a bit, probably 15-20 or 22 in-lbs. You will likely want a small bit of Loctite to keep them in place.

Dr is this a synthetic stock as I have no idea I guess A simple call could clear this up but I thought it was a synthetic not a composite like the Finermark or Accumark but I have not played with them much but I think it is synthetic?

Ok below is the whole paragraph from online manual for Vanguad S2 !

On composite stocks with aluminum bedding blocks, apply additional torque to 55 inch pounds to the rear screw followed by 55 inch pounds to the front screw.

I just figured it was a synthetic stock but when In doubt call Custom Shop in the am tomorrow AJ ?

If so, then they changed their recommendations for the S2. If I were him I'd be very careful to avoid overtightening. I know that on a pre-S2 35 in-lbs would be way too much.
